Is Double Heating Better: Remington T Studio Thermaluxe Curlers Review

I love hot rollers. They are fast and easy. I can put them in my hair in about 3-4 minutes, and then let them cool down while I do my makeup. Once they're out, they just need a quick tousle, a spray of hair spray, and I'm ready to go! However, since my rollers are aging, they don't get as hot. Over the last year or so the change in temperature has been very noticeable, and the result is that my hair falls flat by the end of the day instead of 2-3 days later.

So, I've tried a few new sets of rollers, part of my forever hunt for the perfect, effortless curl. Those other sets haven't impressed me much. There was a set that was much too heavy, one from the same brand as my beloved stand by curlers that simply didn't have enough curlers, so I'm hoping that the third time is the charm!

This roller set from Remington is a bit different, because rather than heating up only the roller, you also heat the clip! When your hair is rolled, you'll get more even and thorough heating, and a longer lasting curl.

You can see that the whole set comes in a double sided container, the roller slot vertically into their spots. There are 12 large 1 1/4" curlers and 8 medium 1" curlers. I haven't measured them, but I do feel like there is a shorter "rolling surface" than other curlers, so I need to use slightly smaller sections of hair. With other curlers I typically need about 18 to curl my hair (I have a lot!), but I use all 20 with this set.

Overall, I do really like this set. It is hotter than others, but doesn't burn my head. Heating the clip as well does make a difference with how long my curls last, I can get 2 days out of my curls. Because the curlers are larger at 1 1/4", the effect is more like a big, curly blow out than when I curl my hair with a curling iron. So, the first day it's curly, the next day my hair is big and voluminous with some waves.

I'm using the set quite frequently, but I would love it if Remington made a similar set with all 1" curlers, and taller/longer curlers so I could get a longer curl. So if someone happens to be reading this review.... please make some!

Is Double Heating Better: Remington T Studio Thermaluxe Curlers Review

Here's what my hair looks like right after I take out the curlers. You can see that they add a lot of volume and while there's curl, my hair is mostly really big and bouncy. The curl will calm down quite a bit in about an hour, but the effects will last for a day or two.

Changing it Up: Smoothing Before Styling

Changing it Up: Smoothing Before Styling

When shopping for hair products, in the past I've always immediately reached for the volumizing version of everything. I wanted volumizing shampoo, conditioner, styling products... you get the idea. The bigger the better!

In the last 6 months or so I've really processed my hair a lot, something that has finally tipped my previously very healthy hair that could handle all sorts of abuse, over the edge. My hair is definitely drier and damaged, resulting in some frizz and it can be hard to get my hair smooth without using heat. The last thing that I want to do is add an additional heat styling step to my hair care routine each day! However, the unfortunately truth is that I do need a little smoothing now before curling my hair. Without it, my hair looks a bit frizzy and not well pulled together.

I decided to try out TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Color Shampoo & Conditioner collection because they are formulated for color treated hair like mine, and it has Keratin and Moroccan Argan Oil to help treat my damaged hair. I also added in the TRESemmé Keratin Heat Defense Spray, which I thought would help protect my hair from even more damage from heat styling. I spray it on my damp hair, and I've been drying my hair with warm (instead of hot) air and then finishing with cool air to lock in my style.

Since swapping out these products, my hair is definitely smoother and I've been able to skip using a flat iron. If you've damaged your hair like me, make sure you try swapping out for smoothing products! Skipping the additional heat exposure is preventing further damage and saving me time each day.

What's Your Holiday Hair Style?

What's Your Holiday Hair Style?

With all of the special events and parties this time of year, I admit that it is somewhat tempting to just keep my normal hair style, but that seems not quite as special. Over on CVS.com/YourStyleYourWay site, you can take a little quiz about your normal style, where you're going, and it tells you what your style should be!

It suggested that I go with a voluminous look, which is normal for me, though I add in curls. Straight isn't something I do very often!

To get the look, I prep with TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume pre-wash Conditioner and Shampoo. I've written about these products before, I like that they keep my hair shiny and easy to style without weighing it down at all. I then prep my hair for styling with both TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse and TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer, combing the products through to distribute them evenly.

Finally, it's time to blow dry! I dry with my head upside down until it is mostly dry, then flip back over to round brush the top few layers. I spray a bit of TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume Flexible Finish Hair Spray all over the top to help control any fly away hairs.

Note that I used the TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume pre-wash Conditioner and Shampoo duo, because this was what my quiz recommended. I was very close to picking up the TRESemme Botanique Nourish and Replenish Shampoo and Conditioner, which have aloe vera and coconut milk. They smooth frizz and help protect your hair from the dry air of winter.

If you want to try out your holiday hair style as well, make sure you visit CVS.com/YourStyleYourWay to take the quiz and find the perfect look for you.

T3 Voluminous Hot Rollers Set ReviewT3 Voluminous Hot Rollers Set Review

If you've read my blog for a while, you may have noticed that I have a slight issue with curling my hair. Meaning, I'm completely obsessed. As a straight haired girl, I want what I do not have, and that is curly hair. I covet it, I will spend time to get it, I want to use no heat curlers, I own a huge number of curling appliances, and about 4 sets of hot rollers. Most of my favorite curling irons, and my fave blow dryer, are all from T3. And a few months ago I got an email from their website that the T3 hot rollers, which I've coveted for what feels like forever, were on sale. I pounced!

MoroccanOil Styling Gel Review: The Secret to Overnight Curls

I Bought It, Affiliate Links

MoroccanOil Styling Gel Review: The Secret to Overnight Curls

Recently I posted about some overnight curlers that I had been loving, The Sleep Styler. I've still been changing up how I use them, but my results have gotten better and better!

I've added in a second set of curlers, but not the full extra 8 rollers. I now use 11 curlers for my hair because it is super thick, the slightly smaller sections have made a huge difference in how my hair looks. As well, I can put them in my hair when it is a bit wetter, since my hair is more likely to dry completely. Starting with wetter hair means longer lasting curls.

I'll be updating my original curler review to give more tips also, but I needed to review this gel. Because I've found that my usual hair prep with mousse for holding curls (which is what I use when I'm using a curling iron) doesn't work so well with overnight, no heat curls. Instead, what I need is a hair gel. Yes, just like back in the 1980s. But, I don't want wet looking, crunchy hair. I want hair that is soft and touchable, but just happens to hold the curl for days. Yes, days!

After trying out a few unnamed hair gels, I found this one from MoroccanOil! It is clear, doesn't have much scent and doesn't feel sticky. I've been combing about a grape sized amount through my damp hair with a smoothing cream, then I lightly dry my roots, and put my slightly damp hair in the rollers.

I'm using the medium hold version of the gel, which is surprisingly difficult to find online! It has just the right amount of hold for my curls to be touchable and last for 2 full days. I'll likely bump up to the strong version when I run out, I'm hoping for a full 3 days of curls.

You can find the medium and strong hold at MoroccanOil.com (medium and strong), but the strong hold is also available at BlueMercury and Nordstrom. I found my tube in person at my local BlueMercury!

Get the Look for Less: The Soft Half Up Curls I'm Obsessing Over

Get the Look for Less: The Soft Half Up Curls I'm Obsessing Over

Now that the summer is drawing to a close, I've been craving more structure and plan for my beauty routine. I think it might be the result of a carefree summer, full of time in the pool with my girls. While I love swimming in them (and I really do swim, I'm not the mom doggy paddling with my head above water), the time in the pool means that I haven't spent much time doing real "styling" of my hair. If I'm going to be wet in a few hours, why spend an hour curling my hair?

So, less time in the pool now means I'm breaking out my curling iron and styling products! The style that I've found myself craving the most is this one. It's pretty simple, but the look is a bit softer than I've done my curls in the past. I've also been pulling back my bangs area, so it's more of a half up style.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

This look is great for the transition to fall's cooler temps, and it is really versatile! I had it while running errands and working from home, but it's also great for work or going out.

Here's what I used to get the look:
• Suave Sea Mineral Infusion Shampoo
• Suave Sea Mineral Infusion Conditioner
• Suave Luxe Blow Dry Spray
• Suave Luxe Volume Mousse
• Suave Luxe Volume Hair Spray

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

I started with freshly washed hair. I love the Sea Mineral Infusion products because while they are hydrating, they're also really volumizing! My hair is really pretty silky at baseline, which makes it harder to hold a style. This shampoo and conditioner duo seems to add just a very small amount of texture (less than a sea salt spray), without weighing down my hair at all. It's just shiny, full of volume and easier to style.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

Because I want volume and hold for this look, I prep my damp hair with these products before I dry it. The Blow Dry Spray helps to protect my hair from heat damage, prevents frizz and adds some volume. The Volume Mousse is great for hold and keeping volume in my hair throughout the day.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

You can see that I actually use a pretty decent amount of mousse in my hair. I have long hair, and enough for about 4 people on my head. So, I distribute this amount through my hair, from the roots to the ends. It doesn't feel sticky at all, but it does add a lot of hold and helps keep my hair from weighing itself down, it tends to go flat as the day goes on.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

Once I've prepped my hair with product, it's time to blow dry. I roughly blow dry my hair most of the way with just my fingers, with my head upside down (hence, no picture of this). When my hair is about 90% dry, I flip back over and I smooth it out in sections, using a big round brush.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

Once my hair is dry, I pull the top parts up and secure it using 4 bobby pins. I've found that my hair pulls back (and looks smoother) if I do this before I dry it. I curl the pulled back hair when it is already back. It doesn't need to be perfect, since I brush it out a bit later it will blend in.

When pulling back my hair, I use pretty heavy duty bobby pins. The wavy side goes down, and you should overlap the pins so they lock together.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

I use a 1.25" curling iron to curl sections of hair. When I pull each one out of the curling iron, I hold the curl up a bit and sometimes twist it a bit with my fingers until it cools down a little bit. I've found that this helps the curl hold more.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave
Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

I finish up with the Volume Hair Spray, which is a touchable, flexible hold. I spray all over, and then use a paddle brush to brush out the curls a bit. This helps that area I pulled back blend into the rest of my hair, and it softens the curls quite a bit.

Half Up Soft Curls Hair Tutorial with Suave

And here's the finished look again! I know I'll be wearing it a lot over the next few weeks!

The Sleep Styler Review: The Best No Heat Curls

Product Sent for Review

the best no heat curls

We always want what we don't already have. And for me, that's always been curly hair. Growing up my hair was stick straight, and while I've gotten a little wavier as I've gotten older, I definitely don't have real curls or waves! So, I'm forever trying out new ways to get the hair that I want. Especially any way to do it that involves less time/effort on my part, lasts for as long as possible, and I want pretty curls that are big and loose, and look like I've spent a lot of time on my hair.

Today, I'm going to share the newest way I've found to get those curls. It doesn't require heat even (amazing!), I can do it at night and wake up to great hair. I'm so excited about this set of curlers, I want to tell everyone! Go ahead and order one of your own, then come back and I'll tell you more about what you just spent money on.

Products for the best summer hair

Lately, I've been very focused on trying new and different things with my hair. I've been using new products, trying to style it different ways (ok, lets be honest, in different ways to have long curls, those are my favorite), and breaking out of my usual mold by trying out balayage highlights (which look best with curled hair). In all of my experimenting, I've yet to share many of my recent favorites with you!

Luckily, for Top 10 Tuesday today, some of my favorite beauty bloggers and I are sharing our favorite hair products. My recent favorites (plus a few that I tend to keep back ups of), easily fall under the category of "if you want amazing summer hair, try these".

Oval Curling Wands for Every Price PointGHD Classic Wave Wand Review and Results

Do you remember this curling wand? I reviewed it last week, and the response has been insane. I've been getting emails, tweets, and just friends asking in person: I love that look, but really? $200??

I know. $200 is a lot for a curling wand. There are some great features in that one, such as super fast heating, and it is great at maintaining an even temperature for the entire wand.

But, there were a lot of requests for a lower priced option. So I went and found you some! Unfortunately, oval curling wands are really hard to find. The 5 that I found were pretty much the only options on-line.

I've made no secret of my obsession with curling my hair. I'm forever in search of the next, prettiest, fastest and longest lasting way to curl my hair. I want it long, voluminous and Angel Worthy. YES. I want that hair.

In a Facebook group that I'm in, a woman showed off her new haircut a few months ago. She had straight, shoulder length hair cut into a cute LOB. But, she had put the most amazing curls into it! It didn't look anything like what my hair looked like when I curled it, and it was everything. Her secret? Instead of using a regular curling wand, she had an oval one.

Today for Makeup Wars we're sharing our favorite new brands. And while this brand isn't new (Oribe has been around for forever), I really only started using their products a few months ago and I have been OBSESSED. I buy at least 1 new product every time I'm at my salon, I buy them at Blue Mercury, I add a few things to a Neiman Marcus order... you get the idea. Splurge vs Steal: How to Get Your Hair To Curl

I Bought It Product Sent for Review Affiliate Links

How to get your hair to hold a curl

A few days ago I was at work, talking to my friend Christine (yes, we have the same name, it can get confusing). She has an amazing teenage daughter, D, who is beautiful. And I mean beautiful. This girl is smart, athletic, very sweet and somehow has managed to not get wrapped up in tons of teenage drama, on top of just being a stunner. I really like D., she's been over to my house even to come and get freebie beauty products.

Christine and I were talking because D. is having a hair styling issue. Her hair is quite a bit like mine, straight and silky, and it doesn't want to hold a curl at all. Christine hasn't been able to help much, mainly because Christine has that amazing curly hair that can air dry and look just perfect (I know, I hate her too). Just like me, D. wants to curl her hair, but she's been having issues keeping those curls in place for more than a few hours. They were planning an outing to the store that night to look at products to help, so Christine and I had a big hair product pow wow. I shared my favorites to add volume and keep curls, but I thought explaining everything in a blog post would be helpful for others as well.

pretty loose curls

For a while now I've been obsessing over loose waves/curls in my hair. My hair does have a small amount of wave already, but it's really only there when wet and it goes away quickly. Curling my hair is difficult because it reverts to straight. So, I use a lot of hair product!

I shared this look yesterday on Instagram. This was my quicky Thursday work day hair, and it took me less than 10 minutes to curl my hair. It looked like this pretty much all day, and today (Friday) it has loosened up some and is still pretty. I've found that the key to getting my hair to look like this really is a great finishing/texturizing/hair spray. I've been experimenting with a lot of different ones, and I get asked about these sprays by readers pretty often via email. So, I thought it was time to share the results of my investigations!
