NARSissist Cheek Studio Palette Swatch and Reviews

Have you seen the newest blush and bronzer palette from NARS? It's exclusive to Sephora, and like other NARS blushes, this is all kinds of amazing. These blushes are beautiful and work for almost any skin tone. They apply with just a regular blush brush, but do seem to be extra glowy! They last all day on me.

NARSissist Toujours L'Amour Eyeshadow Palette Review and swatch

Have you seen the newest NARS shadow palette yet? It is everything. Everything.

The shadows are just a little bit creamy almost, very well pigmented, and they blend very well. They last all day, but I still recommend using them over a lid primer as usual. I love that the palette has a nice range of neutral shadows but a few not-crazy accent colors.

best fall nail polish shades

As soon as the weather gets a little cooler, I want alllll the dark nail polishes! I tend to reach for dark reds and purples the most, but I also have a lot of browns and metallics that I'll use as well. And yes, I do have all of these shades, except for that sequin one from Alexa. It's been hanging out in my Nordstrom cart for the longest time while I covet it. I'm still including it, I need to just buy it!

Get The Look: Fresh and Glowing on the Tanya Taylor Runway Spring/Summer 2016

The look on the Tanya Taylor Spring/Summer 2016 Runway was classic NARS. Amazing, glowing skin. Which is the reason I'm featuring this look, I'm forever fascinated with what makeup products their makeup artists use to get such amazing looking skin! This look was created by Uzo, NARS International Lead Makeup Stylist.

NARS at Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2015: Glowy Makeup You'll Want

I always love seeing what products professional makeup artists use to create that perfect "no makeup" look, and this year Gucci Westman offered a little bit of a twist on that look for the Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2015 Runway Show. I think the skin looks perfect and glowing (and let's face it, these models are about half my age with access to some amazing beauty pros as part of their job). But really, it was the glowing and somewhat ethereal nature of the eye that I loved.

“This look is effortless, aspirational and chic while still feeling luxurious and cool. The face is feminine and fresh with subtle monochromatic tones complimented by a bitten looking mouth," says Gucci.

I have the information on which products they used to create the looks! Notice that there's a pretty wide range of colors in some instances, this really was to accommodate all of the different skin tones of the models. I groups items together by skin tone use, it should be pretty obvious which ones were used together.

Skin Perfection: The Best No Makeup Look at Naeem Khan Spring/Summer 2015

As usual, I love the fresh faced look created by NARS for a Spring 2015 runway show! This look was created by James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry for the Naeem Khan Spring/Summer 2015 Runway.

James says, "Naeem’s inspiration this season was actress, Lauren Bacall. We liked the idea of this classic, old Hollywood Naeem girl but a bit more 'undone'. Fresh skin, glossy eyes and a stained lip is where we landed."

Personally, I'm a sucker for the fresh skin and the stained lips.

Makeup Wars: My Favorite Nude Lippies

I Bought It Myself Affiliate Links

best drugstore nude lipsticks and stains

I've previously shared great nude lippies, but today for Makeup Wars we're sharing our favorites! I went through my pockets, purses and the top of my vanity to find the products, and shades, that I'm reaching for most often. Because my skin is so fair, I've found that I need to be really careful with light nude shades. Too light or too nude and I look ill. I usually need to add in a little bit of pink to give me a bit of color.

I'm often a drugstore makeup girl, but lately I've splurged a bit at Sephora. What nude lippies are you reaching for lately?

1. YSL Glossy Stain in 106 Beige Anarchist: The YSL Glossy Stains are a great formula and sometime in the last year or so they came out with beige-nude tones. I recommend picking out one that looks darker than your lip shade, they're pretty translucent.

2. NARS Lip Gloss in Belize: Super pretty mauve-pink-nude color, it should work for a lot of skin tones.

3. L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain, Lilac Ever After 185 : I know this is often described as a purple, but it really isn't. I've repurchased this shade 3 times now I think? It is a bit mauve, a bit nude, and just deep enough to look like I have some color but not take over.

4. Maybelline Color Sensation Lipcolor Buffs, Nude Lust: These Maybelline lippies are really hard to find in stock, so I ordered this one on-line. I really like it, and I'm trying to ignore my urge to buy a few more shades.

5. L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Balm, Caramel Comfort: Perfect for keeping in your pocket all the time!

6. YSL Rougé Volupte Shine in 10 Chocolate Instyle: It looks darker, but this is pretty translucent and comes across as just the perfect slightly darker than nude shade on my lips.

7. Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixir Lip Color, Nude Illusion: The Maybelline liquid lips are a bit more pigmented than their L'Oreal cousins, I also like Caramel Infused.

Quick and Easy Intense Eye Look in Under 5 Minutes

NARS Eye Paint Quick Eye Tutorial

When I shared the new NARS Eye Paints, I promised an eye look. And I have to admit, that I keep grabbing them and using Tatar and Snake Eyes as liners for a light eye. I can't help it, the look is so pretty! But, I finally had time to play with Tatar for a dark smoky eye. The look is pretty dramatic and works best for going out rather than everyday.

Quick Eye Look With NARS Tatar

To start this look, I used a nylon brush to apply NARS Tatar all over my entire lid, up to the crease. I then gently patted the edges with my fingertip to blend/feather the product. I next used my go-to crease color, Wet 'n Wild Nutty, which went into my crease. I blended it down a little bit onto the Tatar and then above.

I used Too Faced's Perfect Liner in Perfect Black and Better than False Lashes to finish off the look.

Quick Smoky Eye With NARS Tatar

The "complete" pictures were taken about 8 hours after I did the look. You can see that the Eye Paint held up pretty well with minimal creasing! Perfect for a night out.

NARS Eye Paints Review
I don't usually like to feature items before they're released (these NARS Eye Paints won't hit stores or on-line until Sept 1st), but I wanted to review them now since I know a lot of you will be shopping this weekend! You should definitely pick up an Eye Paint (or two, or three). NARS sent me three to review, but I'm planning on picking up a few more like Mesopotamia, Iskandar and probably Ubangi. Ok, maybe Solomon Islands too. Don't tell my husband!

Get the Look: Elizabeth from The White Queen

Nothing to Disclose

Starz The White Queen

Have you seen the new television mini-series, The White Queen? It started airing on August 10th here in the US, though it's already almost completed in the UK. As usual, this amazing series was created by the people over at the BBC. It's based on the books by Philippa Gregory, mostly The White Queen, but also The Red Queen and The Kingmaker's Daughter.

I watched Episode 1 this weekend on my DVR, counted down the hours until episode 2 aired (it was less than 6 but I was not very patient) and now I'm debating about buying the DVD series from Amazon and probably all three books. I can tell you that watching Rebecca Ferguson play Elizabeth is definitely making the wait for the next season of Downton Abbey a bit easier!

Get the Look of Rebecca Ferguson in The White Queen on the BBC and Starz

One of the reasons that the series is so enjoyable is definitely watching Rebecca Ferguson. To say that she's beautiful seems to be an understatement. She's wearing very little makeup in the series, but what she does have seems to only emphasize her amazing skin and features. Not to mention her hair.... it really makes me regret my recent Bob (which I'm still getting used to), and wishing for about 3 feet of very voluminous extensions. It's almost enough to make a girl give up her giant makeup stash and recreate Rebecca's look every day.

I'll definitely be trying to emulate this no makeup but natural look on a few of my "down" days, here's what I think would work best to do it.

The hair on The White Queen
I couldn't find any images of Rebecca's hair at the beginning of episode one, but she has very long blonde hair with a bit of strawberry tint. Her hair is pulled back off of her face with small braids, and then tied (with what appears to be cords the same color as her hair, here I have 2 different Faux Leather Suede Necklace Cords, I'd use something similar in a color that blends in to your hair).

I'd recommend starting with Redken's Guts 10 to help add texture, volume and to hold the style. It's a spray that comes out as a white foam. I love it on my roots to add a little volume without teasing. Add it to wet hair, comb through and then blow dry. You need volume and texture, so don't worry about making things perfect here!

Once the hair is dry, it is crimped (yes, with a 1980's crimper) to add extra texture and volume (in case you didn't save your crimper from 30 years ago, they're selling them again! Bed Head Crimper). Once you have enough volume and texture, it's really a matter of playing around with how you want to pull back your hair. Add in small braids, twist sections, just make sure you have some volume and it falls nicely around your face.

Makeup from The White Queen

Elizabeth's beauty is a real feature in the series, and they've tried to keep it fairly natural. Rebecca has amazing skin with freckles, and I love that they are really show cased. She is fair but her skin is a little bit sunkissed, to recreate this look I would use a light concealer like Maybelline's DreamLumi Touch, which has a bit of light diffusion in it as well. To get a light sunkissed look without looking powdery, try Stila's One Step Bronze, concentrating on places that the sun would hit you like your cheek bones, forehead, chin and nose.

Elizabeth has a very pretty flush, I would try a cream blush like Maybelline Bouncy Blush (Peach Satin) or Stila Convertible color (in Gerbera). Try to stay in the pinky-peach family, and concentrate the color on the apples of your cheeks. Pair it with a similar tone on your lips, a lip stain like Stila Yumberry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain would be a good match.

There was minimal makeup on Rebecca's eyes, but when she did have on shadow it appeared to be a very light wash of a matte light grey or a light brown-taupe. Try Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe, Stila Smudge Pot in Gray or NARS Soft Touch Pencil in Goddess.

When she had on mascara it was on uncurled lashes, dark brown rather than black, and not a clump was in sight! I'd try CoverGirl's Clump Crusher mascara, which is formulated differently than other mascaras and has a specific distance between bristles to help prevent clumping.

Finally, a slightly defined eye brow was key to the look. I'd go for IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Brow Power Skinny Pencil, which has a slightly ashy tone and works with almost all hair colors.

Have you seen The White Queen? Am I the only one obsessing over this mini-series?

Makeup Wars: Color War! Making Teal Wearable for Work

Product Sent for Review
Makeup Wars Teal

This week for Makeup Wars we've decided to hold a color war! We've all picked a color to show off somehow, and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to show off the Fall 2013 products that NARS sent me a few weeks ago. I've been dying to use that blueish-teal color!
Makeup Wars: Nars 2013 review and swatches

NARS sent me a few products to try out.

• Yamal: This is a very basic, matte color that pretty much everyone needs. Really.
• Bavaria: Insanely, insanely pretty! It has a little bit of shimmer.
• Brow Perfectors: Yes, the image of the pencils at the end is way too bright, though you get a good idea of their shape and you can see the colors in the swatch. It comes in 4 shades and that shape does help it to give a more natural look when you fill in your brow. I've been using mostly Caucase, though Salzbourg also works for me.
• Paimpol: This is a matte lip pencil, which does sound a bit strange, and the color is a bit translucent, but it seems to help create a great light lip. I can't show it really in a swatch (it really blends in), and in pics on my lips it doesn't show up either. In person it's pretty great, you'll have to take my word on it!

Makeup Wars Making Teal more wearable for eyes

This was my makeup look at work on Sunday. I took pics with my cell in the parking lot before driving home, so it isn't perfect, but you get the idea! I first applied Yamal to my entire lid, up over the crease. I put Bavaria on the outer half of my lid, a bit darker at the very outer corner than the middle. I put black liner into my lash line, then using a smudge brush I picked up a bit of the Bavaria and smudged out the liner some. I loved the way the Bavaria blended with the black liner. I finished up with lots of mascara, the Paimpol lippie (See? Can't really see it) and a little bit of blush (Lillium Stila Convertible Color).

I loved this look, it was more interesting than my more neutral looks that I usually wear to work.

(Also, pro blogging tip: be sure to take a selfie with your phone in the car, after you've been at work for most of the day. The indents in your nose from your glasses will make the pic post worthy!)

Best cream cosmetic colors and shades

A quick peek at some of my favorite cream products and my favorite post where I've reviewed or used them (though I think I haven't mentioned the Cover FX before).

1. Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil: Super pigmented, it's easy to just put a little right where you need it and blend with a finger. I usually wear FBI.

2. Stila Convertible Color in Lillium: I need to repurchase this since I'm almost out, but this has been my go-to blush this summer.

3. Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation: Cover GX does a great job with skin tones, and I swear that it looks so natural! (I wear N20)

4. NARS Multiple in Copacabana: The perfect highlighter

5. NARS Multiple in Orgasm: The cream version of my favorite splurge blush

6. Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Pink Plum: Another great cream blush that I turn to often. I apply with a brush.

7. IT Cosmetics Hello Light Anti-Aging Crème Luminizer: My new favorite highlighter for my cheek bones, it catches just enough light.

8. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Mushroom: Super easy to use as a liner or a shadow, it lasts all day.

9. Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in Matte Navy Blue: My fave dark smoky eye!

10. CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Lime Green Flame: I'm looking for an excuse to use this one again.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil: The Highly Pigmented Lippie You'll NEED This Summer

NARS Satin Lip Pencil
NARS recently released a new collection of "lip pencils", and they sent me two for review. (I've had them for a while, you may have seen them on my Instagram, where I posted some pictures I took about 2 minutes after they arrived on my doorstep.)

Ever since bold and bright lippies took center stage last summer I've been loving bright pink and red lips. I was so excited to try out 2 of the brightest options that NARS is offering in this formula.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil Review

Yu: A Shocking Pink
Luxembourg: Vivid Watermelon

NARS Satin Lip Pencil Picture

The lip pencils apply amazingly well. They feel like a combination of a balm and a lipstick, but they are very, very pigmented. One swipe and you're pretty much done. And they last for pretty much forever. Lodhi and Rikugien are next on my list of colors to try.

Ask a Beauty Blogger: Cream Blush Picks for Fair Skin

Cream Blush for Fair Skin
I'm really loving cream blushes lately. They're great for creating a pretty and natural flushed look, but when layered they make your blush last for hours. Seriously, all day. I like to use a cream blush directly over my foundation, set it with powder, and then add a little more cream blush or a powder blush. The layering is key for a long lasting look.

Shannon recently asked for some cream blush picks for fair skin, so I enlisted the help of my friend Pam from Pammy Blogs Beauty. She has fair skin similar to mine, and I knew that she'd have some great picks as well! I haven't tried any of the products she mentioned, so you know I'll be adding them to my shopping list!

Drugstore Cream Blush Picks

New York Color Blushable Creme Stick in Plaza Pink
NYX Stick Blush in Pink Poppy
Revlon Photoready Blush in Pinched

Best natural looking blushes

Like Pam, I like 2 forms of cream blushes. The stick form (the NARS Multiple) I usually swipe across my cheek and then blend a little with my fingers. A cream blush that comes from a palette like the Bouncy Blush I will apply with my finger tips or a brush. My favorite blush is a small round brush that I got in a Clinique gift with purchase years and years ago. The closest I've found is the Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush, which is a bit denser but has a the correct shape and is about the same size. The Juice Beauty Buki Brush looks about the same on the ULTA website, though I haven't seen it in person.

When picking blush colors, I tend to go for either a light pinky-rose color or a light peach. The NARS Orgasm shade is a combination of both of those, so it really works for pretty much any situation.

Do you have any other blush picks for Shannon?

Do you have a question you want me to feature? Be sure to ask!
