Nails Inc Paint Can Review: Spray On Nail Polish?

Nails Inc Spray Paint Can Review
Nails Inc Spray Paint Can Review

I'm a nail polish girl. Pre-kiddos, it was not unusual for me to change my polish nightly. Yes. Not because I had chips, but because I loved changing up the color and it somehow soothed me to change my manicure. I can change my polish is about 10 minutes flat, no clean up of polish required.

But, with nightly polish changing, a girl gets a lot of practice. I know many people that aren't like me, and for them applying perfect nail polish is very difficult, requires lots of clean up, and can take an hour. (Ok, this is most of my friends. I shock them with my self-mani skillz.)

So, when Nails Inc, one of my favorite polish brands, came out with a spray on nail polish this fall, I couldn't wait to try it out. Unfortunately, it wasn't available in the US until this spring. And I've finally tried it!

Read on to see if this is the instant manicure of your dreams!

Review Nail Inc's Alice & Olivia Good Things Come In 3's Kit

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that lately I've had a bit of an obsession with Nails Inc. While the brand has sent me a few things here and there, I can't stop myself from filling my cart with their amazing polishes over at Sephora! (As I type this, I have 3 more on their way to me, because I bought a few for myself, including the Health Kick Kit). Here's a peek at my current Nails Inc manicure with Victoria and Snow Globe.

best fall nail polish shades

As soon as the weather gets a little cooler, I want alllll the dark nail polishes! I tend to reach for dark reds and purples the most, but I also have a lot of browns and metallics that I'll use as well. And yes, I do have all of these shades, except for that sequin one from Alexa. It's been hanging out in my Nordstrom cart for the longest time while I covet it. I'm still including it, I need to just buy it!

Makeup Wars: My Favorite Purple Polish

I Bought it Myself

the best purple nail polish
(ok, actually more like 5%)

I own a lot of nail polish (don't tell my husband, but I'm probably up around 2000 bottles). One of my favorite shades has always been purple. Light purple, dark purple, creams and shimmers and glitters... If it is a purple polish, chances are that I'll want to own it!

Essie VIP swatch
Despite how many purples I own, I admit that there is one shade I go back to over and over. It was already long discontinued (and hard to find) when I unearthered 2 bottles of Essie's VIP polish at the back of a polish rack in a nail supply shop about 5 years ago. I think I paid $2 per bottle for this shade, though I know in the past it has gone for much more on eBay. And yes, I've already finished one bottle, so now I save the second for "special" occasions. Because every special occasion deserves purple nail polish.

What's your favorite purple polish?

My Favorite Pedicure Colors

Favorite Pedicure Colors
Pictured Essie shades, from top left, counterclockwise: Hip-Anema, In the Cabana, First Timer, The Girls are Out, Sunday Funday, Rock the Boat

It's pedicure season again, and while I've had the best of intentions, I fully admit that this weekend I took off my chipping nail polish (it had been on for about 4 weeks) and haven't had a chance to put on more. Today is the day, my friends. So, it was especially appropriate that the nice people over at Martha Stewart sent me pics of June's beauty article, and it was all about pedicures and colors and great pedi tips!

(I'm not sure how they discovered me and started sending me the articles, but I'm always inspired by Martha, so I'm going to keep sharing!)

One product mentioned in the article is Baby Foot's Foot Exfoliate Peel, which kind of looks amazing. Has anyone tried it? I need to order it!

Transformative Beauty: Letting My Inner Vampy Nail Polish Shine Through

While I've always been a beauty junkie, for a long time I was a bit... traditional. Safe choices that didn't really draw too much attention. Conservative. Only ivory and taupe eye shadow. Pink lip gloss. Oh, and I had a pretty decent collection of pale pink polishes.

Well, the truth was that while I was super conservative at work, I was a bit more daring at home. The trouble was, with my long work hours, there was a lot more time at work than at home.

One weekend, I didn't have time to change my nail polish. I had worn a really dark shade during my 24 hours off, and in the harsh florescent lights of the intensive care unit it looked black. Definitely not my usual light pink mani! While this was a bit fashion forward at the time (it was 2007), it was pretty popular in our area.

All morning, I wasn't sure if I regretted not taking the extra few minutes to remove the polish. I debated about using nail polish remover in the ten minute lull between checking on my patients and rounding with the attending physicians. In the end, I decided to let a little more my myself shine through at work.

When rounds started, one of my attendings did a bit of a double take when he noticed my nails. The goth comments started and wouldn't relent, though they weren't harsh (this was a guy that once changed his ring tone to the University of Michigan fight song for a month in honor of me during my internship). He didn't believe me that the polish was actually purple, and while he was friendly about it, the comments were nonstop! Finally, an hour later at the end of rounds, one of the other attendings told him to stop. His wife and daughters frequently wore dark polish, and he didn't think it was a big deal. My defender happened to be the director of the unit.

That morning was definitely a turning point for me. Instead of wearing pale pink every day, I started wearing my "home" nail polishes at work. I started lurking on the Makeup Alley Nail Polish board, and I fully admit that I started buying a lot of nail polish. My polish collection started at about 15 bottles, but started to grow exponentially.

Buying nail polish turned into one of my favorite activities. It turned out that a 2 mile detour off of the freeway when driving in between my hospitals put me in the middle of nail polish heaven. Heaven. Imagine a town filled with nail supply shops. Every top brand... all at discounted prices. And anyone could purchase from the stores, licensed professional or not!

Well.... just about anyone. I admit that I wasn't the typical customer in these stores, and on more than one occasion I was asked if I "knew how to use the polish". I usually laughed and said that "Yes, I definitely know how to use the polish", while flashing a perfect manicure. At work the nurses knew me for my polish, and I would have frequent requests for manicure tips or questions about the shade of the day.

I'm still wearing whatever nail polish I want to work, and at my current job I'm not the only one. The nurses in my unit wear glitter, shatter, any color of polish they want. I also wear bright pink lippies, navy eye liner and non-taupe eye shadow! My collection of polish is now so large that I'm afraid to count the bottles, but I'm probably in the 1000 bottle range.

Do you wear what you want (within reason) at work? Do you feel supported in doing so?

Makeup Wars: My Favorite Nail Polish Options for Fall

Fall Nail Polish
Fall is by far my favorite season. Changing leaves, crisp cool air, college football (even when your team gets spanked by the reigning national champs in a very embarrassing game).... I love it all. I want to put on some dark lippies, nail polish and wear boots with everything!

This week for Makeup Wars we've decided to share our favorite fall nail polish colors. I had a really hard time deciding, so I've opted to show you my favorite new release color and my all time favorite color as well!

Butter London Gobsmacked
Butter London's new fall collection includes this amazing dark blue-ish grey glitter. I have been wanting a perfect dark grey glitter, and while I have a few options (like OPI's Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous), somehow the plain dark grey comes across as too dark and just blah on me. This shade is dark grey in about 95% of lights, but there is a little bit of blue in it (as you can see here in the closeup) and somehow that keeps it from looking flat and boring with my pale coloring.

This is 3 coats. The glitter is suspended in an almost completely translucent base, and the first coat I used was very thin, I thought I'd need 20 coats to opaque! Luckily that wasn't the case. Use thin layers, the glitter can get gloppy quickly.

Essie Wicked
Essie Wicked is my old stand-by fall vampy color. This is my 3rd bottle. Yes, I've repurchased it twice! This dark red is very dark, but just not quite so dark that it looks black (it is most definitely a dark red-burgundy in pretty much any lighting). This is 3 coats.
