Weekend Makeup Kit from Liesl Loves Pretty Things

Today, Liesl from Liesl Loves Pretty Things is sharing her must have travel beauty items! I asked her for her picks for a quick 2 day trip, and she had a lot to say. Here are her picks!

My beauty kit for a two day trip is comprised of my most necessary and most comfortable cosmetics. All my base stuff comes with...

1. Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer
2. Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream

4. bareMinerals Mineral Veil

... as do my favorite brushes.

5. Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki

8. e.l.f. Defining Eye Brush
9. e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush
10. ULTA Eye Brow Brush & Lash Comb
11. Spoolie Brush

Color wise, if I don't have my brow powder, I might as well go au naturel, so that goes in first thing...

17. Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown
14. target="_blank" rel="nofollow"Bonne Bell Eye Mascara in Translucent for setting brows.
My favorite taupe eyeshadow single 15. (NARS Lhasa for cooler months (NARS Lhasa review), or 16. NYX True Taupe for summer (NYX True Taupe review)
13. Prescriptives False Eyelashes mascara in Plush Black
18. Revlon Matte Powder Blush in Perfectly Peach (it's subtle, low key, pretty, and goes with just about anything)

I keep my lips rather low key out of town, because my two day trips are usually just that-- very low key. I keep my beloved reds at home and do a nude, peachy pink, or pinky brown (and I'll usually bring one of each)...

19. Milani Color Statement in Pretty Natural (Milani lipstick in Pretty Natural review)
20. Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
21. Maybelline Color Elixir in Caramel Infused (Maybelline Color Elixir in Caramel Infused review)

Base coat, topcoat, remover, nippers, file, cotton balls, q-tips, and two to three colors, because I won't be quite sure what I'm in the mood for until I'm actually ready to polish.

...and last but definitely not least...

22. Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter

Paraben Free Drugstore Makeup Kit: Yes, It Is Possible!

Paraben Free Drugstore Makeup Kit: Yes, It Is Possible! via 15MinuteBeauty.com

Hello. I just read your post on a makeup starter kit and it inspired me to write to you with a question of my own that I have been struggling with for a while now.

I am 14 years old and I would like to start wearing makeup. The only problem is that I am allergic to parabens, which are in almost every makeup that I can find. I cannot find any makeup or makeup companies that are completely free of parabens.

I have blond hair and light blue deep set eyes. My skin is very fair and it has a cooler undertone. I'm looking for a basic BB Cream or Foundation, Concealer, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, and any tools. I also have very oily skin and would like some type of powder or oil absorbing sheets. I'm not sure if I will be able to find any paraben free products in a drug store, but there is a CVS nearby and also a Sephora that is within driving distance. I am ok with spending a good amount of money as long as I don't react to the products.

Thank you for helping.

Parabens are a hot topic these days. While the medical community feels they're safe based upon our current level of knowledge and scientific research (Dr. Cynthia Bailey has a great post going over parabens in skin care), there are people who want to avoid them due to safety concerns. However, this weekend I received an email from a reader asking about paraben free products due to an allergy, in which case she can't really fudge it and ignore the paraben in her blush. Luckily, parabens are getting easier to avoid, even when you're shopping at the drugstore!

I've spent a few days looking for products that I recommend and building a makeup kit full of paraben free products. I looked primarily at drugstore products (as a teen I would have had to save for quite a while to shop at Sephora instead of CVS), and I looked at ingredient lists on manufacturer websites, CVS, Walgreen's, Drugstore.com, etc. I've found some higher price alternatives that are paraben free, and while they're not in the graphic I've listed those below.

This is an epic long post (with an even bigger collage), so read more after the jump!

• 2 products that clients ask about all the time when they see my apply them to their faces (and I would never personally be without) Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in Shade #13 which is Warm Beige. Aqua Cream is an ultra-pigmented, long-lasting waterproof cream made of a high concentration of mother-of-pearl pigments and I use it to "Warm Up" All Skin Tones.
• The Second Must have is the Make Up For Ever Lip Line Perfector. This is a colorless, waxy pencil that keeps the color inside the lip line and prevents lipstick from bleeding and feathering. Will not change the shape or color of lips so it truly is a product that will work for everyone.

• A great mascara (a must). I love Lancome mascaras and L'Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black is my go-to.
• Concealer because some days we just look tired.
• Tweezers to keep the brows in shape. I use Anastasia
• Other than that, makeup is a personal preference. Some women don't need foundation. If you don't need it, don't wear it! But I think EVERY woman needs to have a skincare regimen and they must wear sunscreen!!

• I created the "The Essential Brush Kit" to be the fundamental tools that every women needs in their makeup kit. This kit includes the foundation, contour, blending, shader, smudger, and synthetic angled liner brush. Bronzer, mascara, lipgloss, and a higlighter is always great to have especially if you're always on the go!

best nude lippies

• A "lip toned" lipstick or gloss. I'm a big believer of having several lip product options. In particular, everyone needs a "go to" lipgloss. A favorite. Something that is flattering when you're not wearing a stitch of makeup- which is why I like it to be "lip colored" or the lip color you wish you woke up with. My favorite has always been MAC Viva Glam VI. Lately, I've been obsessing over Make Up For Ever No. 23. Other faves: MAC Plushglass "Power Supply" or Dazzleglass "Get Rich Quick" I also love the Revlon Lipstain Balm in Adore.

Makeup Essentials: Must Haves From Makeup Artists

Do you have all of the essentials? What makeup products should every woman own? I asked makeup artists for their must have products that every woman should own. They spilled their favorite products, and some of them are available at your local drugstore!

I got some very detailed answers (and way more than I thought I'd get!) so I've split this post up into 2 pieces. Today you'll get part 1, part 2 is next week! (Here's a link to Part 2!)

best makeup for everyone
Brianna Gonzalez, also blogs at Briksia
• Either a brow powder or brow pencil to fill in their brows is a must-have in my book. Senna and Maybelline have great brow products.
• Concealer! I'm loving the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to hide dark circles and other skin issues.
• A good, bright lipstick. I've been using the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69 a lot lately.
• And, of course, mascara! I love the Covergirl Lashblast mascara.

Laura, blogs at My Newest Addiction, and she is available as a makeup artist
• I feel that everyone needs a nice medium pink blush like Tarte Exposed.
• Lip balm is always necessary, whether you like bold lips or nude; my favorite balm is the Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm.
• A fabulous mascara will always do the trick. One that lengthens and volumizes is Chanel Le Volume.

• A foundation primer, like Hourglass No. 28, which keeps makeup looking smooth and keeps it in place all day.
• Also, every woman needs a creamy gel-based eyeliner, like Urban Decay's 24/7 liners, which are easy to blend, and can even be blended out

A Busy Mommy's Makeup Kit for Under $75!

Nothing to Disclose

What makeup should a busy mommy wear

1. Revlon’s Kissable Balm Lip Stain $8
Need a lippie that takes very little time to apply and will last throughout the day? Say hello to Revlon’s Kissable Balm Lip Stain. love everything about this lip stain. It lasts forever and even if I need some added pigmentation I can toss it in my purse and then pull it out in a pinch.

2. Maybelline Fit ME Concealer $6
Okay so many mamas may not have time to apply foundation but Maybelline Fit ME Concealer can be pretty dynamite when used under the eyes. This comes in very handy when you’re like me and live with eternal bags under your eyes.

3. ecoTools Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set $12
Okay mommy, no need to spend a ton of money on expensive brushes. Especially when some of the cheaper ones can do the same thing. I adore EcoTools’ Bamboo Brush set. It gives me just the right amount of brushes and these brushes are so unbelievably soft and durable.

4. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream $6
Don’t have time to put on foundation? Or want to have a nice primer for the skin? I’m a fan of this one. And I love that it comes in so many wonderful shades for mommies of all complexions.

5. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara $6
I’m a mascara lover (obviously) and if I didn’t have to review so many I really would stick to the same ones. L’Oreal Voluminous would be one of ‘em. I just love how applying one coat can give me crazy volumized lashes!

6. Maybelline Eye Studio Master Duo liner $7
Yes, girl. Yes. Eyeliner can really make those eyes pop and it’s important to use one that won’t budge after a few hours. This Maybelline eyeliner is some kind of awesome. Oh! And the best thing about it? It’s practically waterproof!

7. Kiss My Face Face & Neck Lotion $14
Yikes! Didn’t intend on spending that much time at the park with your little one? Next time you’ll need to pack the Kiss My Face SPF 50 Face & Neck Lotion. It’s fragrance-free and is the perfect travel-friendly size.

8. Milani Baked Blush $6
Wait! Where are you going, mama? Yes, you’re in a hurry but quickly toss some color on those cheeks. Milani’s Baked Blush is milled so finely that applying it is almost foolproof. Trust me, I know. I’ve applied in while sitting at a stop light.

9. Boscia Blotting Liners $10
Every mom deserves to not be shiny, these papers will take care of that problem quickly without leaving behind any powdery mess.

My friend Brittany from Clumps of Mascara was nice enough to share her favorite picks with me! I've been a fan of hers for years (look, I wrote about her crazy UDPP discovery way back in 2008!), and I'm so honored to call her my friend now. In addition to running her blog, she has a super adorable baby girl and works full time. If anyone knows how to get ready in a flash, it is this super hard working mama!

Teen Makeup Kit by Elle: What Another Teen Would Pick!

Nothing to Disclose

Teen Makeup Kit
Today I want to share another Teen Makeup kit, today from Elle! Over on my friend Kelly's Teen Makeup Kit, Elle had a lot of great recommendations. I asked her to share her picks with everyone. She's a recent high school graduate, so she's definitely closer to Karen in age than I am.

Teen Makeup Kit Eye Makeup

• e. l. f. Eyelid Primer ($1.00)
• Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection in Comfort Zone ($4.99)
• e. l. f. Liquid Eyeliner in Coffee($1.00)
• Wet N Wild MegaPlump Mascara ($3.99)

This eye primer is great to start with since it's so inexpensive and will work on just about everyone. If you have extremely oily eyelids or are very active, consider purchasing one of the other two primers listed below.

For shadows, I highly recommend Comfort Zone as a starter palette. The shadows are gorgeous, apply easily, and are very pigmented but the real reason I choose this palette is the tutorials! There are many amazing tutorials on YouTube by women of all shapes and colors using this exact palette! If you are new to makeup application, it can be very helpful to watch step-by-step instructions. As if that wasn't enough, there is a quick chart on the back of the palette for reference.

The liner I recommend is a brown with a very thin brush: perfect for adding a little definition or even taking it thicker if you go to a dance or other special occasion.

Finally, the mascara is fantastic and I would recommend it to anybody regardless of budget!

Teen Makeup Kit Face Items

• Physician's Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm ($14.99)
• Wet N Wild Color Icon Blush in Pearlescent Pink ($2.99)

If your skin is clear enough or if you have freckles you want to show off, skip the BB cream and just use a sunscreen every day. If you have acne, use an acne cream with benzoyl peroxide in a thin layer on your problem areas underneath your sunsceen/BB cream. The blush is nice and shimmery and will complement any eye look you make using the Comfort Zone palette.

Teen Makeup Kit Lip Gloss
• Wet N Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Crystal Clear ($1.99)

You are young and these are your lip gloss days!

Total Cost: $30.95!

Teen Makeup Kit Optional Items
• Jesse's Girl Eyeshadow Primer ($5.99) or Wet N Wild Take On the Day Eye Primer ($5.49)
• e. l. f. Liquid Eyeliner in Copper ($1.00)
• Physician's Formula Sun Shield For Face ($8.95)
• NYX Round Case Lipstick in Iris ($4.49)

Teen Makeup Kit Brushes
On the topic of brushes: All products I listed that require a brush come with an applicator, so buying brushes right now isn't necessary. $30 is already close enough to a day's wages (or more if you are working part-time!) for a minimum wage earner so I wouldn't try to get a teen to buy these things yet. But! Once you do feel like buying brushes, I so highly recommend Ecotools or realTechniques.
