I asked some of the hottest hair stylists and colorists around the country for their best frizz fighting tips and smoothing products! I'll be featuring a different pro each day, but I thought it would be fun to share my own tips and product recommendations first. I have somewhat wavy hair, it's fine, but there's enough of it on my head for 4 people! In the Michigan summers we get a lot of humidity, so I'm pretty well versed in avoiding the frizz.
I've had great results with the Avon Lotus Shield, which is a lightweight lotion that I can't even tell is in my hair. Another option that I've been trying out for the last few days is Redken's new Diamond Oil (I'm using the intense version). This is a very hydrating oil that only needs 2-3 drops per application! I apply it to my wet hair, comb it through, and apply another 2 drops to the ends of my hair once it is dry. It really keeps away any frizz, adds great shine and doesn't make my hair greasy.
Another one of my favorite tips when fighting frizz is to keep drying your hair. While I'm definitely pressed for time in the morning, if I think my hair is dry, I don't stop. A lot of that frizz starts right after you turn off that blow dryer, simply because your hair isn't quite fully dry. So, once I think my hair is done I'll keep going for another 2 minutes or so to really get it dry. This goes a long way toward making my hair look more like a professional blow out and not like I stuck a finger in a light socket!
Finally, when the humidity is really up there, I just swap out everything for the Living Proof
Stay tuned this week for new tips from a different hair expert every day! Let me know what your favorite frizz fighting tips are in the comments!
Products Sent for Consideration I Bought it Myself
(The Redken was recently send to me, everything else I've purchased multiple times since samples were sent)
I would love your opinion-- I have thick , wavy hair and also live in the Midwest, I rarely blow dry it..wash and go!
ReplyDeleteMy problem is the halo of frizz-- I have tried a lot of different products-- still that halo! Do you think I should blow dry it? I got caught up in a qvc segment last night about the t3 special dryer-- does it matter what type of blow dryer??? thank you!
I think it depends on how wavy your hair is. Mine is just barely wavy lately, not enough to really make into pretty waves and curls easily. But, if your hair is more wavy and looks good when you air dry it otherwise, I think that a dryer might actually cause more issues for you. If that's the case, you might want to go completely the opposite and look into the Q Redew which you could use later on your already air dried hair. It will add just enough moisture to reset products and hopefully tame down the frizz but not add more frizz.
ReplyDeleteI think lately there are a lot of added bells and whistles on dryers that you might not need. Personally, I look for ions (they really do help), more wattage so it's high powered, and I need to have both the directional smoother attachment (that flat thing that looks like it goes on a vacuum) and a diffuser.
I hope that helps!
