When I don't have time for a mask, I love to use an exfoliating scrub. The problem with facial scrubs is that if the granules are too large or irregularly shaped, the scrub basically just gouges the skin. If there aren't enough granules, the exfoliation is uneven. If there are too many granules you'll over exfoliate too easily. Hense, it is very difficult to find a good facial scrub (no, that St. Ives one you used in high school does NOT count at a good one!)
I've tried a lot of facial scrubs, and I honestly have never repurchased. This scrub is amazing. This is a scrub that I know I will buy over and over again. This is a Holy Grail scrub!
What is the secret of this scrub? It's pumice crystals. Yup. They basically ground up that block you use on your heels (or mean to use on your heels) everyday in the shower! It creates a very fine and uniform dust which just happens to be perfect for a facial scrub!
To mean, this scrub smells like a mud mask, and it has a light grey color and is the consistency of mustard. This treatment comes with one of those great little plastic spoons, which is perfect for getting the exact right amount of scrub. Just use this on your face for 1-2 minutes and the result is smooth, glowing and more even skin!

I've been looking for a good exfoliant and sounds like Biolements is something worth trying even for someone with sensitive skin like me... thanks!

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have done your homework...thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look into purchasing this product.
ReplyDeleteHi Christine,
ReplyDeleteI too have purchased many (too many) srubs which have disappointed. I will have to try this scrub and see if it works as well for me! Thanks for the post!
This sounds great; I've never heard of this line. Thanks for your review.
ReplyDeletethis sounds really interesting- the use of pumice stone - I must get some to try . Like yourself I've not had much success with exfoliaters this will be a welcome change. sharon
ReplyDeleteo0o0o! I so want to try that! It looks expensive though... =/
ReplyDeleteOh well, I'll put it on my list of things to try out in the near future.
Ohh I will have to try this, I too have always had a problem with facial scrubs and the product quality. (Alot seem to be better suited for rough elbows as opposed to your face.) Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteYou say that what makes an exfoliater good is the "grit" should be small, uniform and not sharp. Can you tell us what other ingredients can be used for "grit" besides pumice crystals and aluminum oxide crystals that meet your criteria? What about sea salt? Sugar? Corn meal?
ReplyDeleteHi Anon-
ReplyDeleteI think that most sugar and sea salt is too sharp to be used in a facial scrub, though this really depends on the crystals and that will vary from product to product for both of those ingredients. Corn meal I've never tried in a scrub, in my limited corn meal experience (I may have cooked with it a few times?) I remember it as being somewhat non-uniform in size and somewhat sharp, so I'd say no. Really this is a decision that needs to be based on the individual product, since they won't all be the same.
Alternatively, rather than using a scrub you could try a rough, cheap wash cloth, a Buff Puff or there are grit products to buy that you simply add to your favorite cleanser. I have had good luck with the one from Completely Buff, and I know that Bobbi Brown makes a similar product though I haven't tried it.
What about jojoba beads? Like in the John Masters Organics exfoliator:
