Urban Decay Smoky Palette Swatch and Review

Urban Decay released their Smoky Palette earlier this summer and the blogosphere went nuts. I bought the palette on the first day it was available, basically stalking the Urban Decay website until it appeared!

And once it came... I wasn't quite sure what to do with it.

The colors are beautiful. As usual, Urban Decay has created shadows that are well pigmented, blend well and last all day, particularly when used over one of their Primer Potions.

But of course, the colors are very dark and I'm very pale. I have to avoid using too many of the dark colors at once, it makes me look like a crazy raccoon otherwise. So. Yes, I bought the palette. And the colors are pretty, but I'm mostly using them with a stiff angled brush to line my eyes and add definition. When I have an occasion for a smoky eye, I'll know which shadows to use!

You can buy the Smoky Palette at Urban Decay, Nordstrom, ULTA or Sephora.

  1. Thank you for pointing this out! I'm quite pale (usually the lightest color in a brand's range if they even have one light enough) and prefer a more natural look 99% of the time, so your perspective really resonates with me. I should send you half of the money I'll save for not buying this palette!

  2. LOL Yeah, it's too dark to use on super pale skin I think unless you really love that raccoon look. I shouldn't point out this post to you then, but....

Those Bobbi Brown palettes.... especially Griege and Standout Eyes... those definitely are worth checking out! But, make sure you have a good primer, I get much better results when I have a glitter shadow primer underneath. I like the $2 ELF one best.
