Now that it is really fall (at least, it seems like it is? I bought pumpkins...) I'm craving darker lippies. I want something that isn't pink or peach, that shows up a little bit more from a distance. Traditionally, the fall is all about red and berry lips with jewel tones elsewhere. While I really love that look, I've found that it can be hard to keep a red lip looking perfect while you're out and about with 2 kids under the age of 4.

Since I'm on the hunt for darker lips that are easy to keep looking perfect, I immediately thought of the Burt's Bees lip products. Many of the colors are a little on the translucent side, which makes them easier to swipe on and go! They're also a little bit of a softer look, which is more wearable when you're taking your four year old to get her hair cut!

I pulled a bunch of Burt's Bees' darker shades out above. They're actually in order of opacity from left to right in the tray above, the lip gloss tubes are the most coverage and it goes down all the way to the tinted lip balms.

You can see what I mean here. I've pulled out my favorite go-to shades for fall, and the products are in the same type of order as above. Surprising isn't it? The lipgloss is definitely more pigmented than the lip crayon (though those are pretty pigmented) and it goes down to the tinted lip balms.

I like to use a more pigmented product first and layer a lighter, shinier product on top. I've found that combining two complementary shades gets me a bit of a "glowy" look that is richer and just really works.

Lately my favorites have been Lip Shimmer in Fig and Lip Shine in Pucker. So, slightly reddish-brown and more of a red. I think they work really well together! This is definitely darker than my typical run around town lip color, but the color is also easy to just apply quickly (I don't even need a mirror to touch up) and I love it!

What do you think? What are you reaching for this fall?
