New Mommy Beauty: The New Series!

Mommy, New Mom, Beauty, Tricks, Hints, Time Savers
If you read this blog regularly (or even sporadically) you may have noticed my reference to pregnancy, avoiding certain skin care ingredients, etc. Yes, I'm most definitely pregnant (at least I am right now as I'm typing this). I'm due January 19th and we'll see if I make it to that date or things progress a bit more quickly.

Since I'm sure I'll be incredibly tired and preoccupied after my little baby girl arrives, I've been working far in advance to give everyone a little something to still read. Over the next 8-10 weeks you'll find regular posts from me (some of which were written in advance, some of which I'll still be writing throughout the month), some guest posts from fellow beauty bloggers and some beauty tips from both beauty bloggers and beauty experts. You'll notice that some of these posts are geared toward speeding up your morning routine, but some are specifically geared towards new mommies. There will be topics like stretch marks, what to bring to the hospital, etc. If there's a topic you'd like to see covered definitely let me know before my daughter arrives!

As well, keep your eyes open for a second new series coming in the next month or so. A giant series reviewing different concealers! (Who better than a new mom to review concealers?) I'll be featuring brands like Revlon, Cover Girl, Estée Lauder, Make Up For Ever, etc. Let me know if there's something you'd love me to review or make sure I include in each of these reviews.

  1. I was so confused when you first started writing about your avocado. And then suddenly it was a baby. And then it clicked hahaha. So happy for you and wish you all the best!

PS. Can you review some drugstore brands for the concealers too? I'm loving the Maybelline Matte Mousse but run through it super fast, perhaps I'll find a new one in your series!

  3. Christina-
I definitely want to include drugstore concealers as well. I usually purposefully seek out those products to write about (I think that's why I cover more than a lot of the other beauty bloggers). I have a Revlon, a CoverGirl and an Almay concealer right now, I'll look at some Maybellines and I've been curious about some of the NYX products as well. I wonder about some of the even cheaper drugstore brands, like WnW, has anyone heard good things about them or is it a waste of a couple of bucks even?

And thanks for the congratulations everyone!

  4. congrats! I am due April 3rd so I'm looking forward to the new mommy posts. You might also want to check out the hard candy concealer (glamoflage?) - I've heard great things about it?

  5. As a pregnant lady myself, I would love if you could discuss anti-aging products that are safe for pregnant and/or nursing moms. I've wondered about retinoids while pregnant --- and just avoided them, but have wondered if I could start to incorporate those type of products once I'm nursing (which I plan to do for a year).
Also, I'm starting to see a little hyperpigmintation (despite regular application of spf) which I'm sure will just get worse as this pregnancy moves along.
And, you already mentioned discussing stretch marks, but how about a discussion about products to assist with helping that tummy skin "bounce" (ya right!) "back" :).

Just a few thoughts I've had!

    Thanks so much!

  6. Tiffany-
I'm planning a trip to Walmart in the next day or two anyways (there is one literally 1/2 mile from my house, I'm lucky!), so I'll pick it up when I'm there! Thanks for the recommendation.

Mommy, Esq.- I've had a post on that half written for a few months, I'll try to finish it up. I do know that pregnancy is different from breast feeding, and in the hospital we have a nursing book that we'll look up each medication in. I've been looking up pregnancy categories until now, but I'm planning to breast feed as well so I'll do a little research into and add that to the post.

For now, I'd definitely avoid all retinoids/vitamin A derivatives, all hydroxy acids except lactic acid and anything that is a "skin lightener".

I'm having the SAME hyperpigmentation, and you know with my SPF obsession I've been smearing on SPF 15 every day. It likely will get worse as the pregnancy continues, the good news is that it will get better once we're not so full of hormones.

Finally, I did get a product that promised to help the tummy bounce back, and it came with a workout dvd that is super fast and doesn't include crunches! I haven't tried it yet (obviously), but this made me happy since I've read in various fitness magazines that we shouldn't do any crunches for at least 4 weeks after delivery. I'll let you know what I think of it.

I also have one of those Belly Bandits and some similar corset like thing to put around my hips after delivery that takes advantage of the Relaxin sticking around in the body. In theory, I could have slimmer hips afterwards! We'll see if I'm wasting my money on these things or not, but I had to try them out!

  8. Oooooh, that sounds great! I'd love to hear about the Belly Bandits/corsets. I've looked into that product that Brooke Burke is pushing, and am thinking about purchasing, but I'm afraid that my primary motivation is due to my girl-crush on Brooke Burke who I imagine is just a genetic freak...and that's how she looks so amazing...and looked that way just a couple of months after giving birth to her FOURTH child. Craziness!

  9. I am really looking forward to this new series. I'm also pregnant (a brand spanking new mummy!) due at the end of march so this is going to be so helpful! 10. Christine-What an exciting time for you!!! :) I look forward to your new series!!! :)

I am also excited to read all your upcoming concealer reviews. Dark undereye circles are something I am always struggling with from lack of sleep, heredity, allergies, etc (my beauty "Everest" if you will). So, I am very curious to see what you recommend especially since we are of a similar skintone and age.

    Congrats Christine!!!
    XOXO!!!

  11. Congratulations on the baby! I hope all goes well and that you're both happy and healthy. :D

Can't wait to see more on what you're working on. I'm not a mom but I know plenty who can use the help. :D

  12. Love the idea! When I had my baby, the only thing that would keep me from slipping into that zombie-like, sleep deprived zone was taking a couple minutes to take care of myself everyday.

    Congratulations!! <3

  13. Congratulations and hoping you have a safe and speedy delivery!

As a new mom, I can attest to the fact that the beauty routine changes...as in, you may not have one for quite some time! I'm always on the lookout for a way to use less products and streamline the routine.

My new-mom-beauty issues: ab separation, hairloss (hormonal) and red, tired, baggy eyes. Ugh. The baby is really cute though. :)

Thanks for doing this series, I'm looking forward to it...the need to feel pretty doesn't go away!

    Take care!

  14. Congrats Christine!

You mentioned about about WnW--a few of their products are rated fairly and highly by Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me (one of my beauty bibles). A few of their eyeshadows are rated well, but I think they may now be discontinued. Their lipglass is comparable to MAC's lipglass. Also their bronzer is considered the best at the drug store.
