Clinique Chubby Stick for Eyes: A Hurried Girl's Dreams Come True!

Creamy stick shadows certainly aren't new. I loved the Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadows when I tried them out, though they only have a short time to play before they "set" and will. not. budge. I also have tried similar shadows from Milani, but they're all light so not so much fun. And the stick shadows from CoverGirl and Almay.... let's just say I'm a bit disappointed in their staying power. I'm not sure they've even made it on to the blog.

I'm a big fan of the regular lippie Chubby Sticks, and I've been planning on picking up a few of the Intense Chubby Sticks the next time I am near a Clinique counter. But, last week a little surprise showed up on my doorstep! Clinique Chubby Sticks for eyes!

The color array of the Chubby Sticks for Eyes looks pretty good. A few fun colors (blues and purples) and the colors that everyone uses (pink, peach and brown). After wearing them almost every day for a week, I can tell you that if you're going to buy any of them, you must buy Fuller Fudge. I have found that every look is much more professional and has much more depth with a little added Fuller Fudge. So, if you have your eye on that violet, buy the brown with it!

In terms of colors, I did like pretty much all of them, but Pink & Plenty and Big Blue aren't as pigmented and barely show up on my lid. I wouldn't recommend those shades for the paler girls. However, I have a feeling that Big Blue would show up much better on the darker girls and be ahhhhmaazing. So, skip those 2 if you're pale, if you're darker check them out! And let me know if they worked for you, I'm really curious!

Poor lighting and toddler day care viruses have been conspiring against me getting any good pictures of these shadows in actual looks, but here are some of the ones that I've been wearing. Doing your eyes with these sticks takes about 2 minutes. First, I apply a lid primer all over (I've been using my beloved NYX that also offers some coverage), and then I run the stick all over the area I want to cover, apply the 2nd color and then lightly tap with a finger to blend. Then leave it be! I apply an eye liner after that, and I've found that a softer liner with a very light smudging works best, such as the CoverGirl Vivid Impact or Perfect Point Plus Eye Liner. You want it to be very easy to smudge and blend a little bit into the color.

On the left I have Whopping Willow all over the lid with Fuller Fudge in the crease and kind of in a V in the outer corner. This is a great every day eye, and it makes me really, really hope they come out with an emerald this spring!

On the right you see Ample Amber and Fuller Fudge, just half and half. I happened to have this look on the day that my friend Kirstie at Blushing Basics posted this half and half eye shadow look and they were very similar!

On the left is Lavish Lilac with a very light tracing of Fuller Fudge in the crease and outer V. It really did need the little bit of brown to look finished. (You definitely need to buy the brown no matter what!)

On the right is Massive Midnight, which created a look similar to my Make Up For Ever Blue Smoky Eye, but was a little lighter. I didn't think that Fuller Fudge was dark enough for this look, so I used a little Wet'n'Wild Nutty instead, but next time I'll go a bit darker.


I've found that the colors still look great at the end of the day and if you want you could easily blend more traditional powder shadows over them. You have about 2-3 minutes of play before they're more set, so they're definitely more user friendly than the Make Up For Ever pencils, but they aren't waterproof. If you pick one up, you definitely need to buy the Fuller Fudge to go with it, the added brown will make a big difference!
