Kiehl's Super Multi-Corrective Cream Review

So, I think by now it's pretty obvious that I'm a big fan of Kiehl's, especially since I'm continually reviewing and raving about their products, running into their stores to buy more products, stockpiling their Lip Balm #1, I could go on and on. A little while ago they offered to send me their latest product, which has just hit the website. It was really good timing for me, I had spent a lot of time outside and somehow my skin was suddenly drrryyyyy. Super dry. And it wasn't responding to my "normal" super hydrating treatment (Kiehl's Midnight Recovery), I think because it was also irritated and unhappy about sun exposure. It was tight, felt like I had an outer layer of dry and dead skin that would not move, be fixed and didn't like to have my Clarisonic on it either.

So, when my new Multi-Corrective Cream arrived in the mail, I gleefully opened it and swapped out everything else I was using for my most hydrating, gentle and basic Kiehl's products. I've been using the Ultra Facial Cleanser and Ultra Facial Lotion SPF 15 (which comes in 30 now but I still have 15 hanging around my house).

I swear to you, that within 36 hours my skin was back to happy and glowy. Was it because I backed off of everything and went to "basic" and gentle products that I know my skin loves? Was it the new cream? Was it because I also backed off of the Clarisonic and any other potentially issue causing treatments that I was overdoing in my desperate attempts to stop the cracking and peeling that I had for about 5 days? I do not know.

I do know that this is one of my new favorite creams. It, too, shall be hoarded and purchased in bulk during the Friends and Family Sale.

Read on to see what is in this new miracle cream...

So, Kiehl's says that this stuff "offers a hard-working solution to correct multiple key signs of aging in just 2 weeks and double efficacy within 4 weeks." Which means that since I've been using it for about 2 weeks now I'll start seeing the correction of signs of aging (I don't have many actually), but I've definitely seen the difference in my skin!

When approaching this cream, Kiehl's decided to create a cream that would “work hard to swiftly and visibly correct multiple key signs of aging: skin contour, firmness, texture, elasticity and wrinkles."

They came up with 3 active ingredients that aren't your "typical" active ingredients.

Jasmonic Acid: Not really an acid, this signaling molecule is produced by plants when they are stressed to help increase self-repair and resistance to wounding.

There are few studies in the skin, but what has been done found that a petri dish skin had an increase in hyaluronic acid, which means more moisture and decreased thinning of the skin (1). A second study looked at use in crow's feet and in steroid thinned skin. Both showed an increase in collagen IV, laminin-5 and fibrillin (2). Based on these studies I do think this is a promising ingredient!

Beech Tree Extract: Increases skin firmness, and plumpness. It does this by increasing glycosaminoglycans in the skin, basically improving the dermis.

Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favorite moisturizers, it can hold 10x its weight in moisture! But, it's rather large, this smaller version will also help to improve skin elasticity while reducing skin roughness and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

The cream itself is white and thick, not at all sticky (which is tricky with some of these ingredients, especially the Jasmonic Acid and Beech Tree Extract). It has a very light herbal scent though I basically have to stick my nose in the jar to pick it up. It sinks in pretty quickly but my skin does have a light sheen of lotion left on it afterwards. This is fine for night, but I do have too rewash again later if I plan to put on makeup. (I've put the cream on in the morning after an early morning washing and then rewashed a few hours later when I'm finally really getting ready for the day.)

While I haven't noticed any anti-aging benefits (in person I really don't have any issues, no fine lines and wrinkles to speak of), I do think my skin is much better off than when I first started using the cream. My skin is much softer, glowy and just healthier. I'm not sure that just any cream would have helped my skin recover, so I'm definitely happy!

  2. I haven't seen a full ingredient list, so i'm not sure. They don't mention any of the "typical" active ingredients to avoid, but I'd need to see an entire list before commenting.

  4. I loss my trust in these reviews more and more as the internet gets cluttered with them...this product does absolutely nothing for your skin. yes, it is a moisturizer, but nothing special at all.

  5. I also use Kiehls Midnight recovery oil and recently my skin went VERY dry and nothing seemed to make the difference, just like Christine described above. I found a tester in my cupboard for Multi-Corrective Cream and gave it a try. I felt a difference the minute I put it on. I now need to find some money to buy it :( but it is perfect for my type of skin.
