The Perfect Half Up-Do: Redken for Valentino Spring 2015

The Perfect Half Up-Do: Redken for Valentino Spring 2015

For the Valentino Spring 2015 runway, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a soft beachy half-up hairdo that I love! It has texture and waves, isn't boring and looks like it would work for a lot of different occasions. That is, if you skip the shell adornments!

“Valentino has a way of conjuring up what women want and this look is about this girl in the sun and in the sea, emphasizing the femininity of the classic Valentino girl," says Guido. "I used fashion waves 07 to create the waves and then used an iron to add additional movement."

What You'll Need:

Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer
Fashion Waves 07 Sea Salt Spray
Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray
Blow Dryer
1 Inch Curling Iron

How To Get The Look:

1. Mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer throughout damp hair, followed by Fashion Waves 07 Sea Salt Spray. Using your fingers, create a center part and then blow dry the hair. While drying hair, twist section by section to create waves and movement.

2. Touch up curls in irregular sections using a 1 inch curling iron.

3. Loosen the curls with fingers and spray hair once again with Fashion Waves 07 Sea Salt Spray for texture. Add Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray for hold.

4. The half up look here was created by taking a gold headband and applying it to the back of the head, wrapping hair around the headband and allowing the shell adornments to hide the band. As an alternative, take hair from both sides of the head and lightly wrap it around itself, securing in the back of the head with bobby pins.

Get the Look: Edgy Braids Worthy of Pinterest from the Marissa Webb Spring/Summer 2015 Runway

Edgy braid tutorials from the Marissa Webb Spring/Summer 2015 Runway

If you're like me, you drool over the intricate braids over on Pinterest. I try to follow some of the directions, though I fully admit that I'm only really able to follow my friend Christina's directions over on Hair Romance (and yes, I was totally name dropping there. I know Christina. She is super funny and sweet and yes, has the best Aussie accent ever.)

Anyways, I love that these braids have directions that are easy to follow, they used TRESemmé products to create them for the runway, and they're more edgy than many other braids out there. Not so Bohemian, these would be perfect for going out at night (New Year's Eve?) Both looks were created by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu.

What You'll Need for Both Looks:
TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse
TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray
If you need added volume, they used extensions by Beauty Works Online
 as necessary.

Braided Pompadour Tutorial

Braided Pompadour:

1. Apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse on damp hair and rough-dry ends for volume and texture. Finish blow-dry using a round brush to create fullness through the top of the head and the hairline.

2. Using the end of your comb, section off the center portion of the hair three-fourths of the way down and clip up.

3. Create a Dutch braid (in side out or reverse French braid) on both sides of the head using the loose hair, beginning at the temple and working your way to the nape of the neck. Braid the remaining lengths, leaving ends out, and fasten with a clear elastic.

4. Mist top section of hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray and lightly brush along the part.

5. Begin French braid, leaving additional volume at the front and base. Gather hair along the part, working 90 degrees from the head, and finish braiding lengths of the hair leaving ends out. Fasten with clear elastic.

6. Gather all three braids and twist into a low bun, leaving ends loose.

7. Brush the completed French braid upward creating a wind blown effect and spray with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.

Five Strand Braid tutorial

Five-Strand Braid:
1. Prep damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse and rough-dry the lengths with fingers for texture and lift. Finish blow-dry with a round brush at the hairline for a soft, airy perimeter of wisps.

2. Once hair is dry, create a deep side part on the right side of the head, then back-brush hair for extra volume and spray lightly with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.

3. Divide hair into five equal strands at the nape of the neck and begin weaving the farthest right section over and under each part, working your way to the left.

4. Take the furthest left section of hair and weave over and under each part, working your way to the right.

5. Repeat steps four and five until braid is complete, leaving ends loose and fasten with a clear elastic.

6. Loosen braid by gently pulling apart and leave airy wisps to frame the face. Mist finished look with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.

Erin Fetherston Spring 2015 Makeup

The makeup at Erin Fetherston's Spring 2015 Runway show was created by Lottie Stannard, Key Makeup Artist for Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC), and was inspired by Kate Moss in the 1990's, and then updated. This is the bit where I admit that I do not not what that means. I think the makeup was mostly pretty neutral and pretty, and that it could mostly be applied with your fingertips, making it easy to replicate when you're in a rush!

Erin Fetherston Spring 2015 Runway: Glowy, Pretty Makeup

To create the look:
Eyes:
Cosmetic Colour Pencils in Feathered (white), Pennyroyal (mid-tone brown) and Tarred (black) were used to create the eye look. Pennyroyal was over the entire lid, Feathered was applied as an accent to the inner corner of the eye, while the eye was lined with Tarred. Dune Stained Gloss was patted over the lid to add a bit of shimmer.

Face:
The face was prepped with the OCC Tinted Moisturizer and imperfections were fixed with Skin: Conceal. Créme Colour Concentrate in Newt was applied to the cheeks as blush and Metallic Lip Tar in Pris was used as a highlighter.

Lips:
The lips were prepped with Lip Tar Primer and then Lament Matte Lip Tar was applied.

Nails:
The manicure was created by Gina Edwards for Kiss Nails, and it was a crisp white, classic oval shape nail with a thin gold stripe at the tip.

Emily Blunt at the Into the Woods Movie Premiere

Have you been hearing all about Into the Woods? I feel like every time I turn on TV one of the stars is being interviewed, and yes, there really are a lot of stars! The premiere was Monday night in New York, and a few of the celebrity makeup artists are sharing how they created the Red Carpet looks!

Emily Blunt's look was created by Jenn Streicher for Laura Mercier.

Face:
• First Emily's face was well prepped with RéVive Intensité Moisture Serum Extrême Complete Hydration (1), and primed with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum (2).
• Next, she applied Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen in Natural (3), $43 and blended in the shade with a damp BeautyBlender sponge (4).
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer (5) in #1.5 was applied under the eye area and as need to even out skin tone.
• The look was set the look with Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder (6).

Eyes:
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour (7) in Rosegold was applied over the lid. Amethyst was then applied along the lash line.
Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner (8) in Noir was applied along the lash line and then up into a cat eye.
• Multiple coats of black mascara were finally added. There was no mention of which mascara, but try Lancome's Grandiôse Mascara (9) for a wide eyed look.

Lips:
• Surprisingly enough, there are 2 lipsticks and a lip pencil involved in making that lip color! First, Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour (10) in Plumberry was applied as a base. Next, Laura Mercier Lip Pencil (12) in Ruby was used to deepen the ends. Finally, Hollywood (11), was applied to the center of the lips to create an ombré look and provide a “pop of color.”

Anna Kendrick at the Into The Woods Premiere

Anna Kendrick's look was created by Sara Glick for Laura Mercier. I love how clean and fresh she looks, and how her eye color is accented with plum and eggplant shades!

Face:
• Anna's face was first moisturized with RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream Retexturizing Hydrator (1), and then primed with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Oil Free (2).
Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer (3) in #0.5, was applied only as needed using fingers.
• Using a BeautyBlender sponge, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 (4) in Cameo was sparingly applied.
Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour (5) in Soft Iris was applied along the hollows of the cheeks, sweeping upwards toward the hairline. “This is a simple and easy way to bring out the natural curves of the face without looking too bronzed, and can simply be incorporated into a daily makeup routine. Her skin is porcelain and fair, therefore, just small amount beautifully complemented her skin tone.”

Eyes:
• Three shades of Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour (6) were used to create a subtle smoky eye. First, she applied Seashell on the inner corners, top and bottom. Next, she used Rosegold on the lids and bottom lash line, and finally Plum for the crease and outer lash line.
Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner (7) in Noir was applied along the lash line with an angled brush, making sure to fill in the top waterline.
• Three to four coats of BareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara (8) in Black to the top lashes and one coat to the bottom.
• Anna’s brows were kept fairly natural, lightly filled in with Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil (9) in Ash Blonde.

Lips:
Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour(10) in Silk was used on Anna's lips. “When I think of a princess, this is she shade that comes to mind,” Glick shared.

Super Sleek Hair on the Runway! Kérastase and Odile Gilbert at The Row Spring/Summer 2015

Super Sleek Hair on the Runway! Kérastase and Odile Gilbert at The Row Spring/Summer 2015

As simple as this hair looks, I kind of doubted that it was completely straight forward. Such straight, sleek and healthy appearing hair is not something that happens overnight (and certainly not immediately before a runway show), so I fully admit that I was curious about the products used just for my own future use! What products could become a go-to when I need hair that looks sleeker.

This look was created by Odile Gilbert for Kérastase Paris, The Row Spring/Summer 2015 Show.

Hair products for super sleek straight hair

What You'll Need:
Baume Double Je: Half paste/half cream formula that offers medium hold and adjustable radiance
Forme Fatale: Blowdry gel with an extra-fine texture that perfectly shapes hair to give all-over volume and body that lasts
Kératine Thermique: Smooth-taming milk that instantly tames frizz and protects the hair fiber from humidity
Laque Dentelle: Micro-fine diffusion hairspray that sets all styles in place with a flexible long-lasting hold

Get The Look:
1. On damp hair, apply Kératine Thermique to smooth strands and provide heat protection

2. Using a paddle brush, blowdry hair straight

3. Section by section, apply Forme Fatale to keep hair’s shape

4. Finish with Baume Double Je to smooth flyaways and lightly mist Laque Dentelle for hold

Get the Look: Amazing Waves and A Quick Chignon at Zang Toi

At the Zang Toi Spring/Summer 2015 Runway Show, hairstylist Eiji Yamane of Eiji Salon worked with René Furterer products to create two amazing hair looks on the models. This was a special show, it was the 25th Anniversary of Zang Toi, and they created a limited edition René Furterer by Zang Toi: 25th Anniversary Special Edition Box. The box contained René Furterer’s Vegetal Sculpting Gel, Styling Wax, Modeling Paste and Glossing Spray. All of these products were used backstage to create the hair looks. The box is available while supplies last on ZangToi.com as well as René Furterer salons.

What I loved about these hair looks was that not only were they beautiful, but each model make a quick hair transition during the show! This is great for going out after work, I love when 1 look can be quickly and easily transformed into another look.

Look One: Beachy But Polished Waves

What You'll Need:
Fioravanti No Rinse Detangling Spray
Sculpting Gel
1.5" Curling Iron
Glossing Spray
Vegetal Finishing Spray

To Get the Look:
1. The style was started on dry hair. Hair was parted in the middle and lightly sprayed with water. If hair was tangled, Fioravanti No Rinse Detangling Spray was misted throughout the hair and combed through.

2. Hair was then sectioned off and starting at the bottom layer a little Sculpting Gel was evenly distributed to the hair. The hair was then dried straight to prepare for the waves.

3. Once the hair was smooth, a 1.5" curling iron was used to create curls. Use random pieces of hair and curl in opposite directions to add variety to the curls. Note that the curls are a little loose and they start at about the level of the ears and go down to the very end of the hair. For the show, models had extensions added as well.

4. A few sprays of Glossing Spray were used to add shine and then hair was sprayed with Vegetal Finishing Spray for hold.

 photo zang-toi-chignon.jpg

Look Two: Low, Sophisticated Chignon

What You'll Need:
Styling Wax
Hair Pins

To Get the Look:
1. The look was created very quickly backstage in the middle of the show. First, hair was smoothed with a small amount of Styling Wax.

2. The hair was then pulled back to the nape of the neck and twisted into a very low chignon (which literally just means a bun at the nape of the neck) and pins were used to secure it in place. The hair was pulled out slightly to make it frame the face and look a bit more casual.

Perfect Waves: Joan Smalls and René Furterer Show You How to Get The Look

Joan Smalls' hit the red-carpet at the WSJ. Magazine 2014 “Innovator of the Year” Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on November 5, 2014, and her hair was all kinds of amazing! It was created by Jennifer Yepez of The Wall Group, here's how she created the look, which I think is perfect for day or night! You could easily wear this style to work, brunch, out with friends...

1. Start by applying René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Foam to wet hair, from roots to tips.

2. Spray hair with René Furterer Lissea Thermal Protecting Spray, a lightweight thermal protecting spray.

3. For curly or wavy hair, use a big round brush to blow dry hair section-by-section the hair. For straight hair, just rough dry the hair with your hands until it’s completely dry. Shown: T3 Featherweight 2 blow dryer

4. Starting at the back of your hair, take a section and pin the rest of your hair up (shown, Sephora Hold it Together Blow Dry Clips, they have an alligator shape that holds a lot of hair at one time). Using a 1-inch curling iron (shown, Drybar The 3-Day Bender 1" Barrel Curling Iron), curl your hair from mid-shaft down, keeping the ends of your hair out of the iron. This gives it the undone beachy waves look. Make sure to keep the curling iron vertical to your head to get nice waves. Curl the rest of your hair by unpinning one section at a time.

5. Once the hair is curled, use a wide tooth comb (shown, Sephora Detangling Comb) to comb out your hair into loose waves.

6. Complete the look with René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray to smooth out any fly-aways, and then lightly all over to keep waves lasting all night long.

Get the Look: Just Woke Up Waves at Houghton Bridal Fall/Winter 2015

This is not exactly the kind of look that you expect with a bridal show, but I loved how quick and simple this slightly messy style was. Obviously I wouldn't wear it while walking down the aisle, but it works great for every day life such as running errands and going out for casual meals! It was created by Oribe Lead Hairstylist Adam Markarian.

Oribe products for the wavy hair at the Houghton Bridal Fall/Winter 2015 show

What you'll need:
Oribe Foundation Mist
Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray
Large Barrel Curling Iron (shown: T3 BodyWaver 1.75" Professional Curling Iron)

How to do it:
Add texture and volume to your hair by spray Foundation Mist and then Maximista Thickening spray in to dry hair. Hit the hair with a burst from your blow dryer and rough everything up with your hands to add more volume and distribute the products.

Next, using a large barrel curling iron, add a few bends and waves in to the hair. You don't want to add curl, just a bit more wave to your natural texture. Try loosely wrapping the hair around the curling iron, without using the clamp, to get this affect. You should be concentrating on the mid-shaft of your hair, leaving the root and ends free.

Finally, set the hair and add a bit of matte finish by using the Dry Texturizing Spray throughout the hair and then spraying a light mist of Thick Dry Finishing Spray over the whole head.

Perfect Beachy Wavy Hair: Surfer Chic at Jeremy Scott

The Jeremy Scott runway really nailed the laid back, pretty and no nonsense surfer chic vibe. I think that this look is probably best for spring and summer rather than the fall, but the no-makeup look was really perfected here (as well as the perfect beachy hair), and I wanted to share since I think it works year round!

Perfect beach waves from the Jeremy Scott Runway

The Hair
The hair was casual and the perfect result of a day at the beach, it really looks like hair was windswept. “I wanted to create a look based on surf culture that was relaxed and revealed the natural texture of the hair. Each girl had a unique look which was adapted to suit her individual style - a hidden braid, or a random crimped section; just something to set them each apart,” explained stylist Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling.

Products Used:
Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner
Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz
Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray
• Crimping Iron: I found this hair crimper and a lower priced option.

Get the Look:
1. Wash and condition hair with Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, then roughly dry the hair. While drying, put your head upside down and blasting the roots to create volume, roughly move your hands through your hair to move it around. Once dry, spray hair generously with Ocean Spritz for texture.

2. Take sections of hair and create any selection of the following:
• Random sections of crimped hair: Using a crimping iron on various lengths of the hair to provide points of interest.
• Thin braids at the back or front of the head: Using a fine tooth comb, back comb the end of the braid and spray with Finishing Spray to secure the braid without an elastic.
• Thick braids: Separate hair into 3-4 braids and secure each with an elastic. Spray each braid with Finishing Spray, apply heat with hair dryer and diffuser then unbraid for a beachy texture.

3. Rake fingers through hair (especially on the crown of the head) for a full, voluminous, textured finish.

Get the look of Jeremy Scott's Spring 2015 Runway, the perfect natural makeup

The Makeup
This is the natural, no-makeup makeup look at it's finest! It was created by MAC make-up artist Kabuki, and he did an amazing job! “I wanted the models to look like hippie surfers with sun-kissed faces... Dewy and young beach skin, super-casual with nothing obviously cosmetic.”

Products Used:
Fix + Spray
Matchmaster Foundation
Face & Body Foundation
Studio Finish Concealer
‘Keep It Loose’ Casual Color Lip and Cheek
Mixing Medium Shine

Get the Look:
1. Skin was prepped with a light moisturizer on the sides of the face (not the center) and neck. A light mist of Fix + Spray was applied all over, and then a light layer of foundation was applied. They used Matchmaster Foundation in the center of the face, blending out to the lighter weight Face & Body Foundation on the sides of the face and on the neck. Problem areas were hidden with a little Studio Finish Concealer.

2. To create the pretty glow seen on the cheeks of the models, one of the colors from the "Spring 15 Palette" was tapped onto the cheeks and bridge of the nose. This isn't available yet, so go with a pinky-peach cream product like the ‘Keep It Loose’ Casual Color Lip and Cheek pictured here.

3. The eyes were left bare with just a little bit of Shine Medium to add some sparkle. Lips were moisturized and otherwise left alone.

Get the Look: Spring's Perfect Low Retro Ponytail from Sherri Hill

For the last week or so I've received hundreds of "get the look" emails with backstage information and pics, all straight from the runways of New York Fashion Week. Some of the looks are decidedly perfect for the runways, and would look not right in the "real" world. But some of the looks are perfect for every day life, or maybe a special occasion.

Today I wanted to share this low retro ponytail, the extra volume and contained perfect messiness seem perfect for a fun night out or a party.

Get the Look: Spring's Perfect Low Retro Ponytail from Sherri Hill

This look was created by stylist Tammy Mixon for the Sherri Hill Spring/Summer 2015 Collection using the new CHI Miss Universe Style Illuminate line, “I designed this hairstyle to allow the dresses by Sherri Hill to stand out. Since it is her Spring/Summer Collection, I wanted a look that would be universal but fresh looking.”

low retro ponytail tutorial products

What You'll Need:
CHI Miss Universe Style Illuminate Flexible Hair Spray
CHI Miss Universe 1 1/4" Curling Iron
• CHI Miss Universe Style Illuminate Restage Dry Shampoo (alternative here)
CHI Miss Universe Style Illuminate Rock Your Crown Firm Hair Spray

How to Get The Look:
1. Begin the look at the top creating a side diagonal part.

2. Starting at your crown, take 1” sections and spray with Flexible Hair Spray, then curl the section and leave the last 1-2" of the hair free. Release the curl and hold it in your hand for a few seconds while it cools, then clip it up to hold the curl while it finishes cooling.

3. After the hair has cooled, remove pins and brush lightly to release the curls.

4. Next with your fingers lift multiple sections throughout the head spraying each one lightly with Dry Shampoo for texture.

5. At the back of the head, part-off a triangle section from the crown to the nape. Back brush this section loosely and allow the hair to fall naturally.

6. Leaving this triangle section free, begin to gently back brush the top and sides for volume smoothing the surface with your fingers allowing any shorter sections to cascade around the face naturally.

7. With your fingers, begin to comb the hair back including the sides and create a low ponytail. The key to this style is keeping the triangle section out of the ponytail. Leaving this free adds length and fullness to the pony. While styling, also make sure to keep the volume, texture and fullness. Use your fingers to piece and pull small sections. Secure with a rubber band.

8. To hide the elastic tie, take a small section from underneath and wrap around to cover. Spray with Firm Hair Spray.

9. To finish, back brush the triangle section from underneath and also back brush the ponytail blending the two together for fullness. Arrange pieces and spray with Firm Hair Spray.

Makeup Wars: Anastasia's Maya Mia Palette Review, Swatches and Look

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette Review, Swatches and Look

Today I have a very special Makeup Wars for you! Anastasia has just released their Maya Mia palette, created with YouTube Beauty Guru, Maya Mia. It was just released a few days ago, and they've shared the palette with a few of the girls in Makeup Wars to create looks of our own!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette Review, Swatches and Look

The palette comes with 10 shades, a combination of neutrals and a few fun colors thrown in. Most of the neutrals are on the warmer side, and the colors are mostly matte. Glisten is a shimmer, there's a little shimmer in Aqua and Fresh Peach, though I would call them more of a satin finish.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette Swatch Pictures

When using these shadows, I did think that they were pretty powdery. This is something that I've noticed with Anastasia shadows in the past, though it is a little more prominent with their mattes, and that's most of this palette. I recommend using a "stickier" primer under these shadows. I had good results with my Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which has a bit more grab than my usual NYX Shadow Base. (Note, I swatched the shadows above on my arm without any primer.)

I found that using the "grabby" primer helped quite a bit with the intensity of the shadows. I haven't tried using them wet, though that is also an option, you could also use a NYX Milk Shadow Pencil under the shadow in make it more vibrant.

Everyday Maya Mia Palette Look Tutorial

I decided to go for a pretty subtle look with the palette. Many of the neutrals are a bit warm on me (hence, I skipped over those peaches, but they're very pretty!), and the Aqua has been calling my name since I first saw pics of the palette!

I wore this look yesterday, which was a pretty quiet day for me. I did some stuff at home, had a doctor's appointment and ran to my favorite grocery store (Whole Foods) for pizza dough. So, I didn't want to be crazy colorful, but a little hint of fun color was fine with me! In person the Aqua was a little more apparent, I got compliments on the little accent color everywhere I went.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette Tutorial

This look only took a few minutes. I started by prepping my eye lid with Too Faced's Shadow Insurance. I then used a large fluff brush to spread Warm Taupe all over my lid, up to my crease. I wanted the color to be a little lighter than in the pan, a light application was all I needed for the look I wanted. Then I grabbed a little of the Vanilla shade and spread it on my browbone and crease area as a bit of an accent. I do usually put a darker color in my crease, but I'd had a rough night of sleep the night before (see those bags? I blame being 7 months pregnant!) and I thought a lighter look would be better.

To add the Aqua accent, I used a stiff angled liner brush to apply the color along the lash line, it is thicker at the outer corner than the inner corner. Finally, I lined my eyes with a black liner directly in the lash line, and used the Deep Brown over the liner to "set" it for longer wear. I avoided anything on my lower lash line due to those circles and bags I mentioned, I wanted to lighten up my eye area overall and look more awake!

How would you use this palette?

Lilac Every Day Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eyes Palette

Product Sent for Review Affiliate Links I Bought It Myself

Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette Tutorial

Today for Makeup Wars we're trying something different. We'll all be tackling the new Too Faced Cat Eyes palette, creating looks and tutorials!

I decided to create a pretty quick and easy look using the palette. Just because it has the darker colors and is named Cat Eyes, doesn't mean you need to create such a dramatic look. I did this quickly one morning before spending the day with my family.

Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eye Palette

I started with a pre-prepped eye area. I prepped with concealer and then Shadow Insurance, which makes everything stay put all day long!

I used a medium fluff brush to spread Meow all over my lid and up to my brow bone.

Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eye Palette

Next I used a slightly smaller fluff to apply a light wash of Pussy Cat on to my lid up to (but not into or over) my crease. Because it was over Meow you only get a hint of lilac, alone it is more vibrant.

Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eye Palette

Next I grabbed my black Perfect Eyes Eyeliner and lined my eyes in the lashes. I know it doesn't look remotely perfect (that's why I'm giving you 2 pics of it, look! It's messy!) The point really was to get the liner down into the base of my lashes, something that is hard to do with wet shadow. The line is a bit thicker at the outer corner than the inner corner.

Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eye Palette

Next, using a wet brush (a stiff and angled eye liner brush for my upper lash line, a small detail brush for the lower 1/2 lash line), I grabbed a little of Jungle Love and a bit of Panther. Along the top line I traced over the eyeliner, making things more even. The lower lash line, I just placed a bit of the color at the lash line, though I used a bit too much water (see how it kind of smudges down?) and I had to clean it up a little with a q-tip. After the shadow was on the lower lash line I applied more of the black eye liner into the water line.

Eye Tutorial With Too Faced's Cat Eye Palette

Finally, I finished up the rest of the look! I filled in my brows with Bulletproof Brows, highlighted above and below my brows with Instant Attitude Brow Lift and applied Better than Sex Mascara.

Lilac Every Day Eye Tutorial

Everything used:
Shadow Insurance
Cat Eyes Palette
Perfect Eyes Eyeliner
Bulletproof Brows
Instant Attitude Brow Lift
Better than Sex Mascara
Sweethearts Blush in Something About Berry
La Creme Lip Balm in Pink Slip

Sofia Vergara at the Chef Premiere, Tribeca Film Festival

I think Sofia Vergara is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, so it really isn't a surprise that she's one of the faces of CoverGirl. She was recently at the premiere of Chef at the Tribeca Film Festival, and celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams shared how she created Sofia's look for the event. Yes, you really can get her look using mostly CoverGirl!

"For Sofia's look last night I wanted to do an eye in a similar color palette to her CoverGirl Bombshell ad, bronzy with a cat eye liner," says Kayleen. "Really sexy but with a softer pink lip so the focus would really be on her eyes."

How to get Sofia Vergara's Makeup look with CoverGirl

Skin
Kayleen started with glowing skin. She used TruBlend Liquid Foundation in M6 all over her face and neck, then FixStick Concealer just where needed. TruMAgic Luminizer and Sun Kisser (a bronzer and a pretty golden shimmer) were used to highlight and contour Sofia's face. CK One Cream + Powder Blush Duo in Breath was used on the apple of Sofia's cheeks. CoverGirl Instant Cheekbones Contouring Blush in Refined Rose would create a similar look.

Eyes
You should always prime your eyes before applying shadow, so Kayleen used CK One Eyeshadow Base in Simple (CoverGirl doesn't have a shadow primer. Time to get on it CG! I bet you could make an amazing one!) and then used Bombshell ShineShadow in Gold Goddess and Eye Enhancer in Swiss Chocolate. Bombshell Intensity Liner was used to line Sofia's eyes and Bombshell mascara was used to create amazing lashes. Sofia's brows are part of her signature look, so Kayleen used CK One Brow Pencil + Gel in Wily Brunette.

Lips
LipPerfection Lipcolor in Decadent #287 finished the look!

CoverGirl Bombshell Makeup Collection Review and Tutorial
You may have seen my initial excitement over the new CoverGirl Bombshell Collection over on Instagram. I've since become completely addicted to the Bombshell Mascara, and the other items in the collection (the ShineShadows in particular) are pretty amazing!

Cover Girl Cream Eye Shadows Review and Swatch Pictures
Bombshell ShineShadow by LashBlast

As much as I love the new mascara (it's my new favorite, more on that below), the real stars of this collection are the ShineShadows. These are really easy to use cream eye shadows that last all day long! There are 6 different shades, I have 4 of them.

Available in: Ice Queen 300, Color Me Money 305, Platinum Club 310, Gold Goddess 315, Ooh La Lilac 320, Copper Fling 325

They are definitely shimmery, so they might be a bit hard to wear if you are a bit wrinkly. I've found that they do best over a lid primer. For a light wash all over I'll use a finger, but for anything more precise, even if it is just 1 color to my lid, I put some on the back of my hand and pat it on using a brush.

Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara

I'm constantly recommending 2 mascaras as a way to increase length and volume. You can do this with any products, the order doesn't matter, but I admit that sometimes I've found products don't mesh well together and I end up a clumpy mess.

The new Bombshell mascara takes the guesswork out of layering! There are 2 ends, the first is super volumizing with a molded plastic brush and the top coat helps add more length and volume, it has a regular nylon bristle brush.

CoverGirl Bombshell Mascara before and after

Here is a quick look at before and after using the CoverGirl Bombshell Mascara, though these were taken during this tutorial, so I was basically applying without a mirror. So, these pics don't really do the mascara justice! In regular use it really does provide even more length and volume and hold curl all day long.

Cover Girl Bombshell Intensity Liquid Eye Liner Pen Review
Bombshell Intensity Liner by LashBlast

I find regular pencil liners easier for every day use, but when I use a liquid I do reach for a pen version rather than a potted or brush version. This liner has a great felt tip, it's long and thin and the pen itself is a bit shorter and fatter, which I think makes it easier to hold.

Available in: Pitch Black Passion 800, Chocolate Kiss 805

CoverGirl Bombshell Nail Polish Swatch Picture

This is a very pretty hot pink color with same color and silver shimmer. I really like the CoverGirl nail polish formula, I don't have any issues getting 5-7 days chip free!

I'm wearing this lip color below, but it is very pigmented, feels a bit hydrating and I was surprised that it lasts for a good 3-4 hours without issues. Even when I'm sipping coffee continually.

I've been wearing the ShineShadows pretty often since getting them! This quick look takes me under 5 minutes when I'm doing my makeup. You can watch the video or read the directions below!

Easy CoverGirl Eye Look with Shine Shadows
I started with a prepped eye area, just with a basic eye primer. If you don't have one, use concealer to cover up any visible vessels and pat gently with some translucent powder.

I then used Ice Queen on my lid. I used a finger for a diffuse look, I applied mostly to the crease and up onto the brow bone for some shimmer. It goes most of the way down onto my lid, but not all the way to the lash line.

When applying to anything smaller then my entire eye area, I've found that it's best to use a brush. I put a little on the back of my hand and pat Color Me Money on to my lid up to the crease. I thought about adding some brown to the contour (CoverGirl Eye Enhancer in Tapestry Taupe is a good addition to this color combination), but decided that the look was fine without this added step.

Fast CoverGirl Eye Look

Next I lined my upper eye with black liner. I used CoverGirl Ink It! in black, really pushing it down into my lashes during application. I then used a brush to smudge the line a bit.

I curled my lashes and used the Bombshell Mascara.
