So, recently I was sent the Flash and Go from Silk'n, which features the same technology at the Sens Epil machine, but with only 3 intensity settings instead of 5, and a much smaller and compact size. Yes, it is pretty much the size and set up of a phaser that Captain Kirk would use. It's also small enough that I've just left it in the corner of my makeup vanity area, quickly plug it in when I am going to use it, so it takes about 1-2 minutes at the most to do a treatment. Love that!
It does take a while to see results. I have treated myself about every 2 weeks since November, and I'm just now starting to see a decrease in hair. I think it did take longer to see results than with the Sens Epil, simply because I had that on setting 5 and this was setting 3. Also, I'm sure that my hair is all in very different phases of growth due to continual waxing/plucking, and things were just going in and out of phase. This is much more true on my face than on my legs (where I mostly used the Sens Epil, and which I typically just shave).
I'll definitely be continuing with the Flash and Go. I love how quick and easy it is to use, and I'm already seeing results. While not super cheap at $299, it is much less than the $500-750 that a friend was recently quoted for professional laser hair removal in the same area. (ote that neither pro or at home laser hair removal are completely permanent. You'll need touch ups no matter which way you go. My touch ups are just done at home with the same machine, no appointments needed!

I have the regular Silk'n Sens Epil and always use the highest setting, and am pretty happy with the results. Would you say the highest setting on the Flash and Go is milder than the 5 setting on the regular one?

I'm with Jessika, I love the idea of having my very own Captain Kirk Phaser! Your point about the hairs all being at different growth phases is extremely interesting too. I know this would be true for me too, as I never catch all the hairs at once with either waxing or threading.

ReplyDeleteIt depends a lot on your skin tone. Dark hair and pale skin is best, and I have indian friends that have done laser hair removal but some that never could. If you have any doubts I'd head to a pro, you don't want to burn your skin!

ReplyDeleteI got this product for Christmas and I was hoping desperately it would work! I started using it and i already saw a difference after one use! I've been using it for about 4 months now and im still seeing a difference! I love this product and I definitely recommend it! To the person worried about shaving their face, don't worry about it, if you're worried about getting dry skin just moisturize the area after a treatment, the more treatments you do the less you'll have to worry about the hair growing in. Only thing is if its for somewhere around the eyes (eyebrows) I wouldn't reccomend it.

ReplyDeleteNo, it isn't. No one will do the studies to see if at home or in office lasers are safe. There are some case reports on treating things like genital warts with lasers during pregnancy (really!) but that's it. To be on the safe side wait until after delivery.

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to know how much longer, everyone is different. I had much decreased hair growth after about 3 months of use, but that hair was basically black.

ReplyDeleteIt really depends on having a big color difference between your skin and your skin tone. So, it depends on how deep of a red your hair is. You might want to wait until the winter when you're at your palest.

ReplyDeleteProbably not, the lasers really rely on having dark hair and light skin. You could probably check with a professional place to see if they could adjust the settings to target your hair, but the lighter hair makes it much less likely that you would be hair free.

The waxing appointments are quite expensive. Any thoughts about that area? Also, is there a money back guarantee?

ReplyDeleteSo, you need to have hair under the surface of the skin for the laser to target, so with waxing or plucking will remove that hair and the laser won't work. You'll need to shave for a while and use the laser when you know that there's hair under there. I would definitely shave before use, any hair on the surface of the skin can absorb the laser instead, you want it all going under the skin.

ReplyDeleteThere aren't any side effects like that. It's better to shave if you have dark hair, but you can try it without.

ReplyDeleteYou can do whatever you want afterwards. It won't affect the treatment at all, but if your skin is irritated a little lotion is probably a good idea!

ReplyDeleteThe hair on the surface of the skin might absorb some of the light's energy, meaning it isn't hitting the root of the hair to kill it basically. It will likely take more treatments, but it's worth a shot!
ReplyDeleteHi - I have been waxing my legs for 20 years and my hairs come back black but finer and with big gaps between. I am so tired of going every 5 weeks, so I ordered the flash and go with the aim of getting rid of leg hair forever. If I shave my legs and stimulate hair growth again (so that 3 spikies come out of 1 follicle) will I land up creating more hair than I have now - or will they all disappear? I am also going on holiday in December (where I will suntan) - should I refrain from using the Captain Kirk phaser on holiday then?
ReplyDeleteWell, there's no way that I know of to stimulate hair growth as you mention, if so someone would have cured male pattern baldness and be insanely rich! After waxing for so long it would take a while for your hair follicles to all get back into sync, but many of them likely aren't producing any more, waxing can result in patchy hair loss as you've mentioned. You could grow out some hair and treat it with the laser and it would work, provided your skin is fair and the hair is dark. I would definitely refrain from using the phaser when tan, most of the energy will be absorbed by the skin rather than the hair, so you wouldn't be doing much of anything to the hair, instead you could just burn your skin.

ReplyDeleteShaving hair does NOT make hair come back thicker, darker or coarser. This is the oldest of wives tales. I have shaved off the white peach fuzz as well as waxed it and it's still exactly the same. After 20 years or so I'm pretty sure I would look like a gorilla by now. I just bought this product and have high hopes, seems to be effective so far.

ReplyDeleteWaxing is actually the exact wrong thing to do. As explained above, the device depends upon having hair in the follicle below the surface of the skin. If you wax or tweeze, that hair gets pulled out. there's nothing for the energy to target, so there's no way it will work.

ReplyDeleteIt depends on the person. In theory it should be ok on any skin. However, once you shave that area, the skin underneath is usually a darker pigmentation than other areas (such as your arm), so you'll need to be careful in those areas. I wouldn't use it on darker skin areas due to the likelihood of getting a skin burn.
