Want Long Hair? Hair Stylists Reveal Their Favorite Tips for Growing It Out Faster

Nothing to Disclose

How to get your hair to grow out faster and longer
Let's face it, we all get drawn in by the pictures of amazing cascading curls over on Pinterest. If you're thinking about growing out your hair, and dreading it, there are things you can do to speed along the process! I've asked some of the best hair stylists in the country for their best tips on growing out your hair and doing it fast! They gave me so many amazing tips that the post is split into 2 parts. The other half is over on Pammy Blogs Beauty, since my good friend Pam is in the middle of moving!

Crystal Casey
Regretfully, your hair will grow at its normal rate until the end of time (.5 inch per month) But keeping it looking healthy is a big part of keeping your legenth if you're growing it out. Getting a trim every 4-6 weeks is no myth. Will your hair keep growing if you don't get it cut? Of course…it will just start to look like straw on the ends. Once a split end develops it just keeps splitting up the hair strand which is what causes that unhealthy straw-like look. If you trim every 4-6 weeks you won't have to cut off 3-4 inches every 6-9 months.

Some of the best hair growth systems out there are Viviscal Professional Supplement Hair Nutrition Program or the Rene Furterer Triphasic Regenerating Treatment and the RF 80 Concentrated Serum. Viviscal helps hair growth internally and the Rene Furterer helps topically!

To grow hair fast starts first with a healthy diet but we can always do more to help the hair by getting a hair and scalp balance service often which is why many of our clients at the Younghee Salon order weekly and monthly. It's literally like getting a facial or massage for your scalp. It stimulates the circulation to your head and this really helps the hair to grow faster. It's amazing, our clients love the hair and scalp balance! Also, getting a small trim or dusting the ends every 6 weeks on dry hair can be very helpful and thickens your hair as it grows.

Fighting the Frizz: Greg Ruggeri Shares His Favorite Products and Treatments

best ways to de-frizz your hair

anti-frizz hair tips
I recommend a fresh blowout with a small portion of an anti frizz product when the humidity is hight. Apart from Brazilian blowouts (the non toxic variety are okay for the short term), the use of a straightening iron with a thermal protectant is always a sure way to avoid frizz. To extend the life of this blowout, use a dry shampoo directly after the blowout.

My go-to products are evo hair's icon welder hot tool shaper (thermal protectant), liquid rollers curl balm, end doctor smoothing sealant (protects & binds the ends), water killer dry shampoo and love perpetua shine drops.

work with your curl to fight frizz and humidity
When dealing with high humidity, I try to go with the hair's natural texture instead of fighting against it. Use a styling product such as René Furterer Acanthe Acanthe Perfect Curls Curl Enhancing Leave-In Fluid and a diffuser for soft waves with superior frizz control.

Troy Peppin was born and raised in Minnesota, Troy spent his early twenties between Los Angeles, Paris and New York honing a distinct set of skills. Fighting the Frizz: Alfredo Lewis Shares his Best Tips!

best ways to de-frizz your hair

Great Styling Products to Prevent Frizzy Hair
Create a style that goes with your hair type. When it's humid, hair tends to have a mind of its own. Don't fight it... embrace it! If you have straight hair, stay away from curls. If you have curly hair, choose waves or loose curls as your look for the day. Don't over-dry, and use a smoothing serum layered with a light smoothing gel to hold the style. But don't go crazy with the product....less is more.

Smoothing treatments are a great way to avoid frizz. My go-to is Brazilian Blowout. There is no down time, and it lasts for 12 weeks. I have gotten them regularly since summer arrived. My clients love them because the result is manageable, frizz-free hair for vacations and beach time.

I use these products on my clients and when I go to the salon: Brazilian Blowout Acai Daily Smoothing Serum is fantastic. Apply a quarter size to ends, and comb through. You can either air dry or apply before styling. Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray is FANTASTIC. I am addicted to it. It's light, yet holds and leaves hair with bounce and movement. It also smells incredible.

Alfredo Lewis has been a hair color specialist for almost 20 years. He trained at both the prestigious Yamano Beauty College in Los Angeles and the Loreal Paris Color Academy in New York City. After graduating, Alfredo studied with top celebrity colorists, Negan Zand and Lori Goddard-Clark, at Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills. There he mastered the arts of Balyage and foil highlights, creating true baby blondes and rich caramel browns as well as color correction. He has worked on celebrities such as Adriana Lima, Dave Navarro, Camryn Manheim, Sandra Bullock, Nastasia Kinski, Holly Hunter, Jaquiline Pinol, Ricki Lander, Monet Mazur and Jane Fonda. After working with celebrity stylist Corey Powell at Jonathon Salon, a Bravo Blowout Series salon, he returned to Cristophe for more than eight years as a color specialist. He currently works at the Argyle Salon and Spa, housed in the Sunset Tower Hotel, in West Hollywood.

Fighting the Frizz: Andrea Dion Jacobs Shares Her Hawaii Tested Anti-Frizz Techniques

best ways to de-frizz your hair

best products to fight frizz in the tropics
I get to tackle frizz every day here on Maui. I like basic old school Joico styling lotion or light weight gels with a little drop of a Kerastase Ultime Elixer serum, run through wet hair and blow dry. The trick is make sure hair is dry, if there is any moisture in the hair it will frizz as soon as it hits the humidity. I find people who shampoo too often are fighting frizz because the hair is too clean, they then need to add oils or serums to tame the dryness.

If wearing hair natural and curly and frizz free I love Shu Uemura Art of Hair Kaze Wave, run through wet hair then air dry, once dry tame with a serum or Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Oil in Cream to tame frizz and freshen up the curls.

Andrea Dion Jacobs is based at the Orchid Salon in the Four Seasons Resort and Spa on the beautiful island of Maui (find them on Facebook). Becoming a hairstylist right out high school Andrea's life long love for the industry has taken her from behind the chair as a stylist and master colorist to 10 years as the owner of a successful Downtown Boston salon. She and her husband traded the city life for the sun and sand of Maui.

Fighting the Frizz: Tips from Hair Pros to Get Smooth & Shiny Hair this Summer despite Humidity

Products Sent for Consideration I Bought it Myself

best ways to de-frizz your hair
Admit it, this is a big hair concern in the summer, especially as the hot and humid months of summer are hitting us! No one likes to have frizzy hair, but it feels like once the humidity starts spiking some of us turn into poodles. It can be hard to not look like Monica Gellar in Barbados.

I asked some of the hottest hair stylists and colorists around the country for their best frizz fighting tips and smoothing products! I'll be featuring a different pro each day, but I thought it would be fun to share my own tips and product recommendations first. I have somewhat wavy hair, it's fine, but there's enough of it on my head for 4 people! In the Michigan summers we get a lot of humidity, so I'm pretty well versed in avoiding the frizz.

best ways to avoid frizz
I've found that when the humidity isn't too bad, I can just add in or swap out a few products to keep my hair smooth. My first move is to add a frizz fighting oil or serum to my hair when it is wet and comb in through completely.

I've had great results with the Avon Lotus Shield, which is a lightweight lotion that I can't even tell is in my hair. Another option that I've been trying out for the last few days is Redken's new Diamond Oil (I'm using the intense version). This is a very hydrating oil that only needs 2-3 drops per application! I apply it to my wet hair, comb it through, and apply another 2 drops to the ends of my hair once it is dry. It really keeps away any frizz, adds great shine and doesn't make my hair greasy.

Another one of my favorite tips when fighting frizz is to keep drying your hair. While I'm definitely pressed for time in the morning, if I think my hair is dry, I don't stop. A lot of that frizz starts right after you turn off that blow dryer, simply because your hair isn't quite fully dry. So, once I think my hair is done I'll keep going for another 2 minutes or so to really get it dry. This goes a long way toward making my hair look more like a professional blow out and not like I stuck a finger in a light socket!

Finally, when the humidity is really up there, I just swap out everything for the Living Proof frizz line. They have shampoo, conditioner, styling lotion... you name it! Even an amazing hair spray! All of it stands up to humidity and keeps my hair sleek even when I'm in the tropics.

Stay tuned this week for new tips from a different hair expert every day! Let me know what your favorite frizz fighting tips are in the comments!
