Changing Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a DermChanging Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a Derm

Now that summer is nearly here, I can't be the only one that is changing up my beauty routine and preparing myself for the more skin baring clothes that I'll be wearing all summer!

Over on CVS.com/LoveYourSkin, there's a great new feature featuring a skincare quiz and amazing advice from Dr. Mona Gohara, Associate Clinical Professor, Yale School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology.

CVS love your skin

Dr. Gohara has some great tips, and my favorites all involved upping your skincare game for your body. She recommended bringing some of those skincare ideas that you have for your face down to the rest of your body. Why do you exfoliate your face but not your body? Exfoliating your body can help make it smoother, and clear up any blemishes. She also recommended using a good moisturizer to ensure that your skin is well hydrated, it will help soothe any irritation and keep it feeling smoother.

After watching the videos and taking the quiz, I headed over to CVS to buy some products! You can get a coupon for $1 off skincare products, just for watching the advice video! Selected products are also Buy One, Get One 50% off from Dove, Simple and Vaseline.

I already had both the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water and Wipes, these are 2 products that I've actually been keeping stocked with multiple back ups! They remove all makeup easily from my skin, with absolutely no irritation or residual product left on my skin. This is perfect for removing everything (even waterproof makeup) at night, or even just refreshing everything mid-day. Based on Dr. Gohara's advice about scrubs on the body, I grabbed a Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub while in the store. I'm planning to use this scrub on my body's stubborn areas, like my elbows.

The Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash I was looking for was out of stock at my CVS, but right next to the empty spot on the shelf was the Gentle Exfoliating with Nutrium Moisture Nourishing Body Wash. I grabbed that one so fast! It has great moisturizers, but also will gently exfoliate my entire body as I use it, helping my skin to feel smoother and softer all over.

Finally, I have Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion, which absorbs super fast but also provides a lot of hydration. Just what my skin needs for those summer outfits!

I've written about makeup wipes in the past. They're a quick and easy way to remove (most) of your makeup for those times that you're feeling too sleepy to do the whole routine before bed. Or for targeted makeup removal, like that mascara you just somehow got all over your lower lash line. (I'm not speaking from personal experience here at all...)

Anyways, so I've written about wipes before. I keep some in my bathroom, near where I take pictures for the blog (easy makeup removal after swatching on my arm), and even in my nightstand. I've tried a lot of different wipes over the years, some are better than others. Some remove almost nothing, so I wonder why I bothered. Some remove almost everything, but I hate the smell. Or, they leave behind a strange residue that I'm not a fan of. There have also been reports of irritation and allergic reactions associated with the wipes. Which really only makes sense, they're leaving behind a fine film of product and there's always someone out there that would be irritated/allergic to pretty much any ingredient.
