Cold Weather Beauty Swap Outs with Dove: Prepping for Colder Weather

Cold Weather Beauty Swap Outs with Dove: Prepping for Colder Weather

When the weather starts getting colder and the humidity plummets, there are a few swap outs that I make in my beauty routine that make a big difference! I thought that today was the perfect time to share my picks! In general, I go for items that are more gentle and add some much needed moisture to my skin and hair. The cold, dry air of the winter (and all of my subsequent time spent indoors with central heating) really does dry out my hair and skin, despite running our humidifier.

I recently shared Dove's Self-Esteem Project with my readers, and there's been a huge outpouring of response! So, while I was at Rite Aid recently I picked some of my favorite Dove products. Read on to see what I grabbed while I was shopping!

Cold Weather Beauty Swap Outs with Dove: Prepping for Colder Weather

1. Dry Shampoo: Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo
I love dry shampoo year round to stretch the time I go in between washing my hair, but that becomes even more important during the winter! If I wash my hair too frequently in the winter, it becomes dry and staticky, with fly aways that are hard to control. I've also found that my scalp becomes dry and itchy if I wash every day.

So, I use dry shampoo to stretch to about 3-4 days (instead of 2-3 days) in between hair washings. I love using dry shampoo at night before bed, instead of in the morning. I can apply a bit more product, it soaks up oil even better, and there's no whiteness or dullness issues! This dry shampoo from Dove smells great and also adds some great volume to my hair.

2. Moisturizing Antiperspirant: Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant
Strange but true, even your underarms need to be a little pampered. Dry skin can happen everywhere, and if I get dry under my arms, well, I get itchy. Instead of applying moisturizer under my arms, I use an antiperspirant that also helps to hydrate my skin. Multi-tasking!

3. Super Hydrating Body Wash: Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash
Once the weather turns cold, it's a good idea to conserve any and all moisture you can in your skin. One of my favorite swap outs is to go for a super moisturizing body wash. This is one of my favorites! It is very gentle but still gets my skin clean, and it leaves my skin very soft and moisturized.

#SpeakBeautiful with Dove Exclusively at Target

Recently my 5 year old started Kindergarten. It's been a big adjustment around our house, full of worries for both mom and dad. One of our biggest concerns is bullying. Until now, she's attended a smaller daycare/preschool. We knew everyone and their parents. Luckily, the school has a very active anti-bullying program, but what happens when she's moved on to middle school or high school? What happens when the interactions include online social media, interactions that move quickly and can be potentially devastating?

In a recent study, Dove found that 52% of girls think negativity they see online damages their confidence*. 52%! It's easy to hide behind the anonymity of the internet, but we're all responsible for the culture on the internet and social media.

Changing Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a Derm

Changing Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a DermChanging Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a Derm

Now that summer is nearly here, I can't be the only one that is changing up my beauty routine and preparing myself for the more skin baring clothes that I'll be wearing all summer!

Over on CVS.com/LoveYourSkin, there's a great new feature featuring a skincare quiz and amazing advice from Dr. Mona Gohara, Associate Clinical Professor, Yale School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology.

CVS love your skin

Dr. Gohara has some great tips, and my favorites all involved upping your skincare game for your body. She recommended bringing some of those skincare ideas that you have for your face down to the rest of your body. Why do you exfoliate your face but not your body? Exfoliating your body can help make it smoother, and clear up any blemishes. She also recommended using a good moisturizer to ensure that your skin is well hydrated, it will help soothe any irritation and keep it feeling smoother.

Changing Up Your Summer Skin Care Game: Tips from a Derm

After watching the videos and taking the quiz, I headed over to CVS to buy some products! You can get a coupon for $1 off skincare products, just for watching the advice video! Selected products are also Buy One, Get One 50% off from Dove, Simple and Vaseline.

I already had both the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water and Wipes, these are 2 products that I've actually been keeping stocked with multiple back ups! They remove all makeup easily from my skin, with absolutely no irritation or residual product left on my skin. This is perfect for removing everything (even waterproof makeup) at night, or even just refreshing everything mid-day. Based on Dr. Gohara's advice about scrubs on the body, I grabbed a Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub while in the store. I'm planning to use this scrub on my body's stubborn areas, like my elbows.

The Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash I was looking for was out of stock at my CVS, but right next to the empty spot on the shelf was the Gentle Exfoliating with Nutrium Moisture Nourishing Body Wash. I grabbed that one so fast! It has great moisturizers, but also will gently exfoliate my entire body as I use it, helping my skin to feel smoother and softer all over.

Finally, I have Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion, which absorbs super fast but also provides a lot of hydration. Just what my skin needs for those summer outfits!

CVS Summer Skincare Offers

It's Tank Top Season: Are You Ready?

I Bought It, Sponsored Post

Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant and Deodorant ReviewDove Advanced Care Antiperspirant and Deodorant Review

It's finally Spring everyone. FINALLY! I know around my area we didn't get a "real" winter, but in retaliation it seemed to stick around for an extra long time. This weekend, I've been outside without a coat and we're even planning a trip to the zoo for Sunday!

Dove recently asked if we could partner together to discuss beauty upgrades, and it was a no brainer! Why? Because I had already made my first "Spring Is Here" beauty upgrade, and purchased Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. I had two of them already sitting on my vanity.

I have big plans for this summer. I've recently finished professional laser hair removal sessions to that area, so I'm planning to wear a lot of tank tops (and shorts) this summer! I won't need to worry about the last time I shaved, and I can wear tank tops every day if I want.

But part of wearing a lot of tank tops is making sure that your underarms look great, which means you need to pamper them a bit. The NutriumMoisture formula in the Dove Advanced Care helps to moisturize the skin, so they feel soft and smooth all the time. And it doesn't hurt that the formula actually offers 48-hours of odor and wetness protection, so you're always dry and smell great.

So, yes. This is what my vanity currently looks like. I'm ready for tank tops!

Best Drugstore Holiday Hair Helpers

It's holiday season again. Which means there are about to be a lot of parties. Often with people you need to impress, like your boss and her husband. Because, yes, somehow it feels like your choice of red lipstick matters at an office party, right?

One of the things that always stresses me out about big parties is my hair. I am perfectly capable of styling my hair, and having it look good. But I want it to look extra good for these parties, and luckily there are a few products (all from CVS!) that make getting the right look super easy.

Softer In One Shower? Putting Dove Body Wash To The Test

Softer In One Shower? Putting Dove Body Wash To The Test

I've used (and liked) Dove Body Wash in the past. It is gentle but gets my skin clean, it is hydrating and in general works great for me. So when I found out that they updated the formula, I wasn't sure what to think. It turns out that all they did was make it better! They've added a little more of the cleanser ingredients, and it is just as moisturizing as it was before. I love that there is a nice lather as well, and everything rinses off easily. The differences are subtle but there, I can definitely recommend the new formula!

Dove is claiming that after just one shower you will have smoother, softer skin! And yes, after my shower my skin was definitely softer than before my shower.

Dove's Advance Hair Series at Walgreens

Sponsored Post

Totally gratuitous, but I was asked to share the new Dove's Advance Hair Series with you (which is available at Walgreen's). And I fully admit that the reason why I said yes is in this video:

Seriously? I love that they went up against MoroccanOil, which is obviously much more expensive and available mostly in salons. I think at the worst you could say that the Dove side looks exactly the same as the MoroccanOil side, but I think it actually look a bit shinier and fuller.

So yes, this is going on my shopping list. The collection includes other products that will hydrate without weighing down your hair. But I really want to try that Pure Care Dry Oil.

Dove and Dancing With the Stars Launch the Dove Close-up Challenge

Have you seen the ads yet for Dove's newest body wash? I see it a lot, though they may be preferentially advertising on my shows/channels (which pretty much means American Idol and HGTV). They show a before and after close up of someone's skin, with the "after" looking much more hydrated. After a week of body wash, not even a different body lotion. To me, this is pretty amazing so you can bet that I'll be trying out my own before and after Dove trial very soon.

In the meantime, Dove is celebrating the launch of this newest product by giving women everywhere a chance to show off their beautiful skin on national TV with the “Dove Close-up Challenge.” The contest is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a real woman to have an authentic “Dancing with the Stars” experience!

The winner will fly to LA and train with a performer from the show, get mentored by Jennie Garth perform in front of America during a commercial break in the show’s performance finale on May 23! You know that she'll need amazing skin for that appearance with the typical DWTS costume.

Jennie Garth will officially announce the “Dove Close-up Challenge” contest during a commercial break in the Oscars. To enter, go to Dove Close-Up to enter. Women can enter the contest February 27 through March 26 by visiting the website and submitting a 60-second video sharing why they are ready for this close-up opportunity.

Good luck!

Dove's Self-Esteem Fund

As part of their Campaign for Real Beauty, Dove is adding a Self-Esteem component aimed at teenage girls. The goal is a very ambitious one- they will be creating outreach programs and hope to reach 1 Million girls soon!

One of the underlying premises for the initiative is that many girls develop insecurities about their looks as a teen, impacting their self esteem and then making them less likely to reach their full potential later in life. By breaking that cycle, Dove hopes to change what we think of as beautiful. Imagine what today's teenagers can make of themselves!

Dove's Reality Diaries

The Reality Diaries centers around four real girls who reveal their actual thoughts, insecurities and how they navigate their seemingly perfect lives. Not everyone is the confident, perfect girl that they appear to be and throughout the series they get advice from Dove's Self Esteem Expert, Jessica Weiner.

Dove Cool Moisture Shampoo

Recently, I was approached by Dove to review some of their new hair care products. Now, you know that I've been very devoted to my Pureology Shampoo & Conditioner for several years now. I'm to the point that I'm skeptical that any other shampoo and conditioner will help my hair at all, that's how devoted I am to my Pureology!

Having said all of that, I received Dove's Cool Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner in the mail. Honestly, I really like these products! According to the Dove website, they are "Formulated with a touch of cucumber and green tea fragrance. Leaves hair clean, soft and revitalized. For all hair types."

Lets take a peak at the first couple of ingredients of each of these products, just for fun.

Shampoo
-Water (Aqua)
-Sodium Laureth Sulfate (detergent)
-Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate (that detergent that is great at removing oil)
-Cocoamidopropyl Betaine (another detergent, based on coconut, it's mild and likely used here for its high lather properties)
-Sodium Chloride- Salt, a processing agent
-Glycol Distearate- a wax, likely used to help coat the hair
-Glycerin- Humectant for moisture
-Fragrance (Parfum), Glyceryl Oleate, Polyquatemium-10, Tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, PPG-9, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Ex. Violet 2 (CI 60730).

Conditioner
Water (Aqua)
Cetearyl Alcohol (a fatty alcohol conditioner)
Cyclopentasiloxane (silicone)
Centrimonium Chloride (a surfactant)
Dimethiconol (silicone)
Fragrance (Parfum), Quaternium-18, Potassium Chloride, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, TEA-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

As you can see, after comparing the first couple of ingredients (I stopped at the fragrance) to the list in the shampoo post, and a quick google search of the others, we can identify a lot of the items in these products. It looks like a lot of surfactants are included in the shampoo (should be great at cleaning), but the addition of glycerin which is a humectant does mean they were thinking about moisture. Seeing a couple of silicones in the conditioner, along with a fatty alchohol conditioner are also likely good signs!

I've been using the Dove Products for over a week now, and my hair is soft and manageable, and it is actually taking me less time in the morning to dry my hair! I didn't think such a thing was possible! The products have a great cucumber/green tea smell, which I find to be very refreshing in the morning. The smell reminds me of something, but I can't quite place it. I think I may have used a similarly smelling product once in a hotel or something, I know it will hit me some night while lying in bed!

The shampoo has a great lather (and although we learned in the shampoo post that lather doesn't mean it's cleaning any better, I still love lather!), and I love how easily the shampoo rinses out of my hair. The conditioner has the same great scent, and has definitely kept my hair soft and easy to style.

My only complaint is that I have a dry scalp, which my Pureology seemed to really help keep under control. Since changing to the Dove, my scalp has become itchy (though I'm not yet flaky). Truthfully, this product is not meant to help this problem. However, it has become kinda painful, so I know that I will be switching back to my Pureology for this issue alone.

The Dove was most definitely equivalent to my Pureology in terms of hydrating my hair (just not my scalp), and keeping my dry hair manageable, flexible and shiny. It was superior to my Pureology in terms of ease of styling, it took less time each morning to dry and style my hair with Dove. And, it was vastly superior in terms of cost, Pureology is much more expensive on a per-ounce cost than Dove.

In short, if you don't have my dry, itchy scalp issues (I'm an odd ball this way) I think that the Dove shampoo will be a great option for you! While the Cool Moisture line is meant for all hair types, you can also check out Dove Love Your Hair for a quiz to find your best match from the Dove Hair Care line. While you're there check out their contest, you could win a trip to New York!
