Mommy Beauty: My Post-Pregnancy Skin Care Box
Thursday, February 03, 2011I thought with all of the discussion about skin care during pregnancy (first with what topical ingredients to avoid during pregnancy and then which skin care products you can actually use while pregnant) that I'd share with you what has been hiding in the corner of my office. It's a little box of products that have made their way to me that I just could not say no to trying out, but that I have to wait until after delivery to try out.
What products sparked enough interest and excitement that they've been sitting in that box, waiting for me?
Read on to find out.
Femme Science Age Control
Dubbed "starter wrinkle treatment for young skin" this product contains a ton of my favorite anti-aging treatments, plus a few that I consider to be "bonus" ways of fighting skin. Meaning, I'm excited that they're there, but they aren't what I consider part of the core, more documented ingredient categories.
In this product: CoQ10, Niacinamide, Beta Glucan, Oligopeptides, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Green Tea, Retinoids, Vitamins C, E.
Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector
Another great product that seems to cover a large number of my favorite anti-aging bases.
In this product: Retinoids, Anti-Oxidants such as Pomegranate Juice Extract and Vitamins C & E, Peptides, Caffeine (temporary tightening), Hyaluronic Acid (lots of hydration and therefore temporary plumping)
StriVectin SD Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles
The Eye Concentrate has pretty much all of the same great ingredients as Strivectin Intensive Concentrate, but since two ingredients in the eye concentrate are listed as being unknown in pregnancy, I've been holding off on using this product.
In this product: Peptides, Antioxidants, NIA114, Hyaluronic Acid
Kiehl's Photo-Age High-Potency Spot Treatment
This is the first product that isn't targeted against aging! This new product from Kiehl's is actually their new brightening treatment. I've been really excited to try this one out against the little sploch of Melasma on my upper cheek.
In this product: Hydroxy Acids, Ellagic Acid, Mulberry Flower Extract and Licorice Extract all target discoloration in different ways.
Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate
I just received a sample of this, and I'm excited to try it out! It contains 10.5% Vitamin C, which is an active ingredient definitely shown to help in anti-aging. I've been meaning to feature Vitamin C in a full post about how it works and the evidence in the literature, so hopefully this product will accompany that feature.
In this product: Vitamin C, lots of hydration with Glycerin
Murad Clean Scene Collection
This collection showed up at my house right when I was in the middle of my worst pregnancy hormone induced breakouts, and it has just been taunting me ever since! I managed to be good and avoid using the products, but it was hard!
The products contain: Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic Acid is the main active ingredient against acne), anti-oxidants

Hi! Your reviews have been very helpful. I am on a full out search for good/luxe product that are safe during pregnancy and your analysis is great. Given the above ingredient breakdown, would you deem the Keihl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate safe during pregnancy??
ReplyDeleteAll of these products were not pregnancy safe. I didn't point it out specifically, but there were added ingredients that weren't pregnancy safe.
