Make Up For Ever's Ultimate Liner Set: The Perfect Liner Set!

I've oogled this set in Sephora in previous years. Was it worth it? Does a girl really need that much eye liner? (Answer: Yes, you need more. I *might* have a bit of an eye liner obsession.)

I'm not sure that I've previously mentioned Make Up For Ever's eye liners on here, other than using them in quite a few looks. When I was sent a set for review, I fully admit that I may have squealed gleefully, run to take pics and then put them in their own little organizer shrine on my vanity. (True.)

The Ultimate Liner Set is out now, and if you're an eye liner lover like me, you really should run out and grab one. While it seems pricy at $160, it really is a steal because the liners are valued at $277! These aren't crazy colors either, they include the basics that everyone needs, a few fun colors to expand your horizons (that emerald green that Pantone is pushing right now is in there too), and the formulas are ahmaazing.

The kit includes a nice sharpener too, but obviously I've swatched the liners here and have some details on the formulas.

Khol Liner is the basic liner that everyone needs. This is a pretty good one, it isn't too soft or too hard. It's that nice in between that glides on to your lash line and smudges pretty easily before it sets up. It isn't water resistant, so it removes pretty easily at night. I like to use it on my upper lash line, though I avoid it for my lower lash line. I tend to sometimes have watery eyes, and if I rub at all this will smear (there's that waterproof thing coming in to play). I use the next liner for my lower lash line.

Colors included:
1K: Deep Black
4K: Deep Green (you need this for the spring!)
9K: Matte Warm Brown

The set includes a lot more Aqua Eyes. This is really the best formula that MUFE makes. It is a bit softer than the Khol liner, and the color is a bit more intense for me. You really need to smudge this one right away, once it sets up it really isn't moving. I love this for my lower lash line and it is perfect for any "moist" situations (crying at a wedding.... swimming in a pool...) you get the picture. It really is waterproof.

Colors included:
0L: Mat Black, black
2L: Pearly Brown, golden brown sheen
3L: Iridescent Navy Blue, navy blue sheen
5L: Bronze Green, golden olive sheen
11L: Purple, metallic purple
12L: Blue With Green Highlights, metallic teal blue
23L: Champagne, metallic pink champagne (perfect for highlighting the inner eye)

Aqua Liner is the one I haven't quite gotten the hang of yet. This is a classic liquid liner. It looks like a fat pen on the outside, but when you unscrew the wand you'll find a thin foam brush. The liner formula is a bit thinner than some other liners, so it does take practice. I can *mostly* get it right, but I admit that I've been lazy and not using liquid liner for the last few months, so I'm only about 95% there. I'll make my liner perfect soon!

Once you have the liner on, it really is beautiful. The shades are deep and rich. The shimmer does show up on your lash line. And it lasts for forever.

Colors included:
4: Diamond Lagoon Green, sparkling blue green
7: Diamond Black Purple, deep violet sheen
13: Mat Black, matte black
15: Iridescent Anthracite, gunmetal gray

5 Year of Favorite Products: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation Primer

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation Primer, MUFE, review
I'm not an every day foundation primer girl, but when I am this is the one I reach for between product review periods. It is lightweight, helps create a flawless finish and doesn't interfere with makeup application (yes, some primers actually do!)

You can check out my MUFE HD Foundation Primer Review for more details.

5 Year of Favorite Products: Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer

make up for ever full cover concealer review
Since my first Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer review, I admit that it has become a staple in my morning routine. Even when testing other concealers, this tube has not left the vanity counter, and there are some mornings that I must force myself to use the product I'm meant to be testing instead of Full Cover.

The coverage is heavy, and just enough to help me cover up my under eye circles. But, it is easy to blend, giving flawless coverage. Plus, it lasts all day.

Concealer Review Series: Make Up For Ever's Lift Concealer

Concealer, Blogger, Blog, Review Series, MUFE, Make Up For Ever, Lift Concealer
This MUFE concealer is a solid product, though I feel it isn't too terribly different from MUFE's Full Cover Concealer. Full Cover is a little more pigmented, though has some caking issues when I layer it unless I'm careful with my blending. Lift doesn't have those issues, though the coverage is a little less and I felt it didn't build as well as Full Cover with more layers. To me, if you need a little more coverage and want a MUFE concealer, go for Full Cover. If not, I'd look at Lift.

Lift also contains Vitamins A and E, both are anti-oxidants.

Really, this is a 3.5 on the coverage scale, I just don't have a graphic made for that level.

Consistency: Liquid, in a tube
Blendability: Very blendable, though it seemed to set up a little faster than other MUFE concealers
Buildable coverage: Yes, though not as buildable as Full Cover
Feeling on skin: Lightweight
Wear: ~8-10 hours
Problems with wear: None
Shades Available: 5 available

Concealer Series: Make Up For Ever's Full Cover Concealer

Concealer, Blogger, Blog, Review Series, MUFE, Make Up For Ever, Full Cover Concealer
Since I had meant to actually start the concealer review series about 5 or 6 weeks ago, I have to blame the delay on 2 things. First, I'm obviously super busy with my new baby. The second has to be this concealer! MUFE's Full Cover was one of the first I tested and I could not tear myself away from it. I would have the best of intentions regarding trying another concealer. I would even open up another product and decide I didn't want to test that day, I wanted to use my Full Cover. So, back to the Full Cover I went. I eventually had to hide this concealer in a drawer as it was so distracting having this on the counter of my vanity.

Consistency: Liquid, comes in a tube
Blendability: Very blendable
Buildable coverage: After about 2 layers things get dicey, though it's so well pigmented you shouldn't really need so much concealer.
Feeling on skin: Lightweight
Wear: ~12 hours
Problems with wear: Caking, Settles into fine lines when more than 2 layers are on.
Shades Available: 12 shades in a wide array of colors

A New Mom's Best Friend: Make Up For Ever Uplight

Make Up For Ever, highlighter, shimmer, uplight, MUFE, review
I think one of the first signs that I haven't been completely adhering to a good skin care routine, or getting enough sleep, is my lack of "glow". You know, that indescribable something that makes us look... glowy? And healthy? Just pretty. I lose mine pretty easily. I like to fake it with a nearly translucent but lightly tinted powder (I'm thinking of a MAC Beauty Powder here), and then go over that with a faintly shimmery powder. The glow is pretty convincingly faked with this routine.

The problem is that it takes 2 products to fake the glow that way. And I don't usually have time for 2 full products. Especially when applying either one with a slightly too heavy hand will look fake and like I'm trying too hard. Time for something a tad more foolproof.

Make Up For Ever's new Uplight is pretty perfect for faking the glow. There are 3 different finishes: Dewy, Pearly and Sparkling. They are all very subtle and reflect light to increase luminosity. There are 8 different shades, so you can easily select a shade that works with your skin tone (I used #11, Dewy Pink Beige). The uplight is a light lotion that can be used alone, mixed in with your foundation or even over it. The color isn't noticeable on me, and neither is the "dewy" bit of it. But I do look... glowy when I use it.

So, one little pump in my tinted moisturizer or foundation is all I need to do now to fake glowy. That's a little less time in front of the mirror each morning!

Make Up For Ever's Unretouched Ads

Make Up For Ever Advertising unretouched, original, advertisement, ad campaign
Have you seen this ad yet in a magazine? It's currently out and making quite the splash! Why? Not because cult brand MUFE is finally advertising (yeah! They'll get the recognition they deserve, I've loved all of their products that I've tried so far). Really, it's because that picture has not been photoshopped. That's right, no retouching there!

Read on to see the model's face close up.

Revlon's Photo Ready Foundation: Is it Really a MUFE Dupe?

Revlon's Photo Ready Foundation, MUFE, Make Up For Ever HD Foundation, Dupe, Comparison, Review
I've heard about this product for a long time. The Revlon Photo Ready foundation. Is it a dupe of the MUFE HD foundation? Or is it really worth the extra $20 or so to have the original?

Even before trying out the Revlon, I have to admit that I was a bit torn. I'm a cheap person. I love a bargain and I will seek them out like crazy. However, there are some things that I think are really worth splurging on, and foundation is one of them. I've just always done much better with more expensive foundations and tinted moisturizers.

Make Up For Ever's HD Microfinish Cream Blush

Make Up For Ever's HD Microfinish Cream Blush
I'm a big fan of cream blushes already. Why? Generally if well blended, a cream blush can create the perfect glowing blush that looks natural and lasts for hours. This blush does that and does it better than other cream blushes that I've tried. Because it has this microfinish, the blending seems to result in a more natural glow than other cream blushes. I've used it under my foundation for a glowing look or over foundation for a natural blush look.

The blush is very pigmented, so you only need a very small amount to create the look you want. I did find that the pump is touchy, and you need to be very careful because it is easy to dispense a lot more blush than you need. I applied the smallest amount out that I could on to the back of my hand and then from there used my finger tips to apply it to my cheek. You'll need to work fairly quickly because the blush seems to set after about a minute. It will last all day easily!

Make Up For Ever's Sens'Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser

Make Up For Ever's Sens'Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser, Eye Makeup Remover
Recently I was complaining about my eye makeup removal options, and lamenting that I wanted a different remover, one that would instantly melt away all makeup. One that can be used in the shower (hence, sans cotton round) is an added bonus.

So, now I'm trying out the MUFE Sens'Eyes Eye Cleanser. This product is a light blue lotion that can be used with a cotton round or with your fingers (score!). It has a light scent and I swear even my waterproof mascara and eye liner melt away as soon as the lotion touches it. It rinses off easily and there is no residue left behind.

In the hunt for the perfect eye makeup remover, this one is a pretty big contender.

Make Up For Ever's HD Powder

MUFE, Make Up For Ever, Forever, HD, Foundation, concealer, primer, powder, review
With all of these HD products on your face and giving you a perfect, even complexion, it doesn't make any sense to cover it all up with a cheap powder that will sit on top and look horrible. This situation calls for a very finely milled powder that doesn't show up at all and can help keep skin looking matte for hours.

Luckily, you can just pick up Make Up For Ever HD Powder when you're buying your other HD products. This powder comes only in "universal color", which is basically translucent. It is a loose powder (which I'm generally not a fan of since I'm really talented at spilling loose powders), which took a little getting used to for me.

The powder is very finely milled and really did completely disappear into my skin once applied. MUFE does make a special black velvet powder puff which they recommend for application, though I was using my MAC 182 Buffer Brush and it seemed work very well. It keeps my skin matte for most of the day, only a small amount of sheen is present on my t-zone at the end of the day.

Make Up For Ever's HD Foundation: Naked to the Eye, Medium to Full Coverage?

MUFE, Make Up For Ever, Forever, HD, Foundation, concealer, primer, powder, review
Today we'll be talking about one of my new favorite foundations, the HD Foundation from MUFE. This foundation gives easily buildable coverage that is virtually naked to the eye. Truly. Add in a good primer (like the MUFE HD Primer I discussed yesterday) and you really can't tell that any foundation is on the skin.

I apply the foundation with my fingers, a small amount starting on my nose and spreading out. The only blending needed is usually just a little swipe with a makeup sponge around my nostrils, and then I'm done. If I want more coverage (it's a light medium coverage with the way I apply it), I can add a second light layer to get to full coverage. The foundation lasts all day without any oxidation color changes, creasing or settling into fine lines/pores.

If you're going to check out this foundation I highly recommend seeing it in person first (for example, at your local Sephora). The are 26 different shades, and there are very minor variations in some of the formulas. Testing it really is important. Personally I came down to 3 different shades that would have been a "good" fit, and only picked one by group census with a few Sephora Makeup Artists (we all voted on which was the best, and the vote wasn't unanimous, the formulas were that close!) I love the shade I picked, but I couldn't have done this on-line!

Unofficial MUFE Week: I Check Out the Make Up For Ever HD Products

MUFE, Make Up For Ever, Forever, HD, Foundation, concealer, primer, powder, review
I said a few weeks ago that I'd be reviewing a lot more Make Up For Ever products soon, and I'm finally getting around to it. I've declared this unofficial MUFE week, and I'll be reviewing a different product each day! Overall I have to say that I'm definitely a new MUFE fan, and I can see why the brand has been getting raves for so long.

I thought we'd start off today with the HD Primer, because where better to start than the first step of your makeup?
