New Ways to Curl Your Hair With Sultra

Sultra Hair Tools

Glamour made easy should be the motto of Sultra’s new hair styling tools. July 9th and 10th at the Chambers Hotel, Beach House PR hosted an event for the launch of Sultra’s new curling irons, blow dryers, and other fun products. I was lucky enough to attend and sample the tools. Stylist Morgan blew my hair out using the new Temptress blow dryer (said to launch in October) that has three main important features. First, the buttons on the dyer are higher so it is easier to control and manage while drying. Second, the blow dryer has ionic and infrared generators that emit ions to smooth frizzy hair and repair heat damage. Finally, the dryer decreases drying time - my favorite feature that is especially great for long and thick hair!

Morgan then used the Bombshell curling rod iron on my hair. The Bombshell comes in two sizes- 1” and 3/4'“, and creates smooth and voluptuous curls in no time. The Bombshell also features ceramic heater technology. I was amazed at how rapidly Morgan was able to curl my hair. The best part? No hairspray necessary! My curls lasted a long time and then evolved into loose waves. I have been using the Bombshell frequently and love the no fuss and efficient technique. My friends who have sampled the Bombshell love it too!

Sultra’s newest iron is the Bombshell Cone rod curling iron that creates tighter curls. Since the barrel on the cone is tapered, hair wraps easily with no clip necessary. One of the stylists mentioned that for a new look- he likes using the Oval because it can give the illusion of shorter hair. Long hair like mine wraps into tighter Marilyn Monroe-style curls when using the Bombshell Cone.

I have enjoyed sampling these irons with friends and family members and love the versatility of each iron. Sultra irons can give you anything from loose beach waves to romantic curls, and let’s be honest who doesn’t love to experiment? The irons also come with a complimentary pink glove to protect your hands from the heat while curling hair.

I also sampled their “hair mascaras,” which are literally colored mascaras- pink, blue, & purple, that you easily swipe/brush into hair. While they are not quite my style, they are very fun and wash out easily. I had some younger gals try them on and they make for the perfect brush-on highlights! So fun!

Finally, Sultra has color clip-in extensions that are easily styled. They come in a variety of colors like pink, purple, and blue cheetah. Again not necessarily my style, but they sure are fun! They are made with real human hair and very easy to clip in. Unlike some extensions I have tried, Sultra’s extensions have a flat clip making them easy to conceal.

I give a big thank you to Christine, Morgan and the other Sultra Stylists, and Lauren from BeachHouse PR for hosting this event. 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic readers- go try some Sultra products today. I promise you won’t regret it!

Sultra products are available online at Sultra, Nordstrom, and at Sephora.

Angelo David Salon: A Great Place to Be Pampered For the Day

Angelo David Salon in New York City, Review
Hello 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic readers! I am thrilled to share my experience at the Angelo David Salon with you. Located at 48 East 43rd St. between Madison and Vanderbilt, my experience at Angelo David was nothing short of wonderful. I was tended to quickly after my arrival and escorted to each appointment. The ambiance was varied as stylists chatted excitedly above calming music.

Marianna the manicurist meticulously groomed and shaped my nails and cuticles. I chose a "fiery tango" Essie red called "Forever Young" as I am headed to Miami this week- thought it would be fitting ;).

Next, Drew shampooed me with the Moroccan Oil shampoo and conditioner. As a dancer, my hair is up every day (often in a tight bun) and my hair takes a beating). My naturally frizzy hair and dried ends were tamed via the Moroccan Oil products. Additionally the smell is marvelous with a tropical quality. I highly recommend the Moroccan Oil products and you can select a product based on your hair type.

After my hair was shampooed, stylist Ivan made me feel like a blonde goddess while his magic hands blew my hair out. Ivan first used the Angelo DavidLong & Strong Detangler spray while my hair was wet- amazing for long hair like mine. The detangler spray not only detangles, but also functions as a leave-in conditioner that heals and protects hair from future damage. Ivan then used the Angelo David New Premier Volume Spray that gave my hair a VA VA VOOM quality ;). With a delicious (but not overpowering scent) the product did its job without weighing my hair down. It is enhanced with silk and wheat proteins and made my hair glossy and strong. Additionally, unlike so many other products I've tried, I could not feel the product in my hair.

While a few curlers set in my front pieces, Julie Tussey, celebrity eyebrow stylist, began to conquer my horrid eyebrows. Unfortunately blessed with my loving father's eyebrows- Julie had her work cut out for her. My brows are what I like to call “tee-pee eyebrows,” pointed at the top like two triangles. My eyebrows are also very light with very little lateral growth. Julie first tinted my brows then trimmed and shaped them. She explained the importance of the eyebrow as a frame for the eye, and recommended the Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper and Hair Touch-Up to fill-in and shape brows.

She also encouraged using a clear combing brush (can be found anywhere- even at Walgreens) to put stray hairs in place. Julie sculpted my eyebrows for 30+ minutes and they have never looked better. So long painful threading!

After Julie worked her magic, Ivan finished my blow out and curled my ends. If you're going out on the town, have a big event, or just need an ego boost- Ivan is your man!

Overall, my experience at the Angelo David Salon was excellent. It must be said that the friendly staff matched the great services. All stylists were welcoming, engaging, and unpretentious.
If you are looking for a high-end salon in New York with passionate and talented stylists, Angelo David is for you. A big big thank you to Ann Lawlor and Christine! I am very grateful for such a pampered day!

My New NYC Girl! Meet Mallory

As someone that has been a beauty blogger for over 5 years, it has been interesting to see the evolution of blogging. I started on my sofa in my little So Cal home. Just me and my beauty products. It was a fairly new medium, while we had readers there wasn't a lot of attention from the media, public relations firms, you name it. 5 years later I get hundreds of emails a week (and often more than 100 a day) from PR reps, I get invites to Fashion Week and other events... really it is a bit insane. Obviously being based in the midwest I can't take advantage of these invites, and there are quite a few that I wish I could!

Since the majority of these invites are in New York City, I've managed to convince someone to be the new "15 Minute Beauty NYC Girl". Which means that if there's something in New York that really interests me, and she has time and wants to go, then she'll be the one that gets to indulge in the events, the salon appointments, etc. Today is her first post, a review of a salon that I've been hearing a lot about and I couldn't resist sending her to check it out.

So, I'm really excited to introduce you to Mallory! Mallory is the daughter of my friend Pam, and while she and I haven't met in person we've been communicating via her mom, emails, and notes for years! I set aside products for her, I hear updates on her life all the time... you get the picture.

Mallory is a college student in New York, currently studying dance. She spends her days running from class to rehearsal to work... If anyone understands the need for a quick and easy beauty routine it is her!
